Explore your possibilities! Plan to work hard in high school! Find an area of passion and go deep in that area (i.e. depth in music, science, etc.). Challenge yourself with advanced classes in areas that align with passions, interests, abilities and long- range goals. Courses taken in school are excellent ways to explore careers.
Registration: Where Do I Start? Talk to current teachers: regular or honors classes? Strong grades recommended in current classes if take advanced courses next year. Algebra again or Geometry or above? Read the LHS Course Guide when selecting classes, available on the LHS Website under Academics Talk as a family to make the best decision about what classes to take.
Course Selection Form Use form as a guide before entering online. Add electives i.e., world language, music, etc. Add Purchase Planner as a “class,” if want to order LHS planner for next year. Online Registration Students received a handout with instructions to enter course requests online. Also on LHS website. Log into Student Access (not Family Access) Login user ID is on their Course Selection Sheet Use student , not their parent . If do not have password, use “Forgot Password” feature to create or change password. If do not have an or have problems with the online system, contact Ms. Ellis in the MMS Counseling.
No Course Changes after March 28 When a course is selected, students are signaling their commitment to take and complete the course. Enter courses online at Student Access by Tues, March 18, Will have an opportunity March to make changes. NO CHANGES AFTER MARCH 28. Changes after March require administrative approval. Only requests based on academic reasons will be considered.

Technical & Community Colleges Need high school diploma Take placement test before enroll If don’t score at college level, will pay college tuition to take high school level courses Can earn Associate Degree (2 year) or Certificate (less than 2 year) in Occupational area or Associate Degree for Transfer to Bachelor’s Degree
What Baccalaureate College Look For Quality: Rigorous courses all 4 years of high school Quantity: Number of courses beyond minimum req’d Thoughtful: Courses that relate to long-range goals Data: Grade point average and SAT or ACT scores Outside the classroom: activities, community service, leadership, responsibility in family or employment Diversity: significant cultural awareness and contributions Personal: Overcoming personal adversity; strength of character or motivation Unique perspective, background, artistic talent or ability Essay: Quality of personal statement/essay
Practice Success Now at Maywood Attend class every day. Complete all homework on time. Work hard with a goal of earning good grades. Seek assistance from teachers, counselors, and parents when needed: self advocate! Become involved either at school or outside of school. Have a positive attitude and never give up !
