Family Research Documents Focusing on: Hickman, Kinney, Curtis and Pendergrass families In Illinois By Jan Bryant (June 2008)

Freedom Papers (An Act) For Fanny and her children: John, Grove, Henry, William, Hetty, Eliza, and Frank An intermarriage between Pascal And Fanny Hickman Married more than 30 years From Burke County, GA Sign by the Governor William Lumpkin Dated: December 22, 1834 Secretary of State Milledgeville, Ga 30 March 1840 Georgia Law (GL1834 Vol Page: 230 Sequential Number: 173)

JOSEPH GROVE2 HICKMAN (PASCHAL1) was born Abt in Georgia. He married (1) MARGARET HARTLEY March 31, 1852 in Madison County, Illinois. She was born Abt in Georgia. He married (2) SARAH ANN CURTIS February 17, 1856 in Clinton County, Illinois. She was born Abt in Clinton County, Illinois. Marriage Notes for JOSEPH HICKMAN and MARGARET HARTLEY: The marriage record for Joseph Grove Hickman and Margaret Hartley was recorded in Madison County, Illinois in Interestingly, the 1850 census list Margaret in the household with Josepph Grove Hickman and four children. 1. Clemmens age 11; 2. Paskal age 9; 3. Susan age 6; and 4 Elizabeth age 6 months. According the 1880 census for Clinton County, Illinois, C.G. Hickman (Clemens) age 41 lists his mother's birthplace as Ireland. According to oral history, this family does claim Irish (European) ancestry. If Margaret was of Irish descent, then her marriage to Joseph Grove Hickman would have been illegal in Georgia, therefore they legalized their union in Illinois. (This is a theory) Children of JOSEPH HICKMAN and MARGARET HARTLEY are: i. CLEMENS3 HICKMAN, b. Abt ii. PASKAL HICKMAN, b. Abt iii. SUSAN HICKMAN, b. Abt iv. ELIZABETH HICKMAN, b. Abt v.
