Welcome to 2 nd Grade Curriculum Night LET THE LEARNING BEGIN !

Your Second Grade Team  Ms. Kelly  Ms. Wangenheim  Ms. Johnson  Ms. Kehres  Ms. Bowles  Ms. Bennett  Ms. Marsh  Combined we have 80 years of teaching experience!

What’s special about second grade?  Book Character Parade: Culminating Project after our narrative unit  STEAM: Class projects with heat conductors/matter and Coding/technology  Art Ed experiences : Lanier Meaders (Appalachian Art), Martha Berry ( Cherokee beadwork artist), and Georgia O’Keefe ( watercolors )  Discover Lab : Changes in matter, Energy/Forces, Erosion/land changes/Environment

Communication  is the best way to contact teachers.  “Communication Folders” are sent home every other Friday with graded papers. These folders contain school information.  Please review, sign, and return graded papers the following school day.  All dismissal changes should be sent to the teacher in the morning. If you send an throughout the day and the teacher does not respond, please call the school.

Absences and Tardies  Please send a written note or within 3 days of when your child is absent from school  Students are counted tardy if they are not in the classroom by 7:40 a.m.  Students with excessive tardies or unexcused absences will be referred to the school social worker

Agendas  Students will copy homework down in their agenda  Agendas will come home daily  Parents should sign each night

Math Facts  Your student should be fluent in addition, and subtraction  If they struggle with this, flashcards are a great idea!  You can even practice online, in the car, or on your tablets.
