WITH INCREASED ACCURACY IN HER USE OF THE WALKER WITH LESS PROMPTING FOR SPECIFIC DESTINATIONS BY MOVING FROM ONE HAND WALKING TO MORE INDEPENDENT WALKING FOR SHORT DISTANCES WITH INCREASED INDEPENDENCE AND LESS PROMPTING IN TRANSITIONS SUCH AS MOVING FROM FLOOR TO SITTING TO STANDING 5. Building A Peer Support Group  Input from peers….  What do we want for the student?  What don’t we want?  How can we increase his/her participation?  How can others get to know him/her better?

Friends of… Club

 Some students have indicated that they have more choice over their lives and more independence.  Community involvement is seen as being more "adult- like", whereas staying at home is viewed as more "child-like".  The student may learn to generalize social skills and become more outgoing over time by modeling more appropriate independent behaviours.  This process also relieves the parents from total responsibility for social activities.
