CANADIAN ICONS A CHC 2D Canadian History Presentation

BOB & DOUG Saturday Night Live cast Dan Ackroyd, but it left behind a lot of other talented Canadians a group from improv showcase Second City approached the CBC about doing their own show, called SCTV SCTV was picked up by CBS in the US… but there was a problem: CBS had 90 seconds more of commercials Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis solved that by adding in a sketch for the CBC broadcasts called “Kanadian Korner”

BOB & DOUG “Canadian Corner” starred Bob and Doug McKenzie Bob and Doug were immediate hits in Canada in fact, they were so popular that there was a Bob & Doug parade in downtown Toronto that had Canadians coming out in their flannel jackets and carrying beer CBS began to show it too as Bob & Doug had a more prominent role

BOB & DOUG Bob & Doug went beyond SCTV to star in a feature film (Strange Brew) and have a hit single (“Take Off”) from a comedy album — they even hosted Saturday Night Live you still hear their version of “12 Days Of Christmas” on the radio every year 12 Days Of Christmas12 Days Of Christmas

BOB & DOUG the impact of Bob & Doug is that people around the world believed we all drank beer, talked hockey, loved donuts and ended our sentences with “eh” the two actors were so associated with Canada that Disney hired them to play the moose in Brother Bear the two actors would reappear together as those characters on Canadian TV in commercials for Pizza Hut and to promote the Olympics more recently, CBC celebrated them with a “24” anniversary special that went over the phenomenon
