Point Slope Form Algebra 1 Honors
Objective: To be able to graph and write a linear equation in point slope Warm-Up 1. Check homework from last night 2. Complete handout on the front cart.
Go over warm-up:
What is Point Slope?
Let’s take a look at all the different types of equations:
Write an equation in point slope given a point and slope: If asked to write in point slope form; leave the zeros so I know you used the correct equation
Write an equation in point slope given a point and slope: If asked to write in point slope form; leave the zeros so I know you used the correct equation
Using Point-Slope Form to Graph
Note: **If directions DO NOT specify what form to write your equation then assume that it is SLOPE INTERCEPT FORM (y=mx+b) **Sometimes it will be easier to write in a different form and then switch to slope intercept**
Write an equation with Slope= -4, and (-1,-2) is on the line **Use point slope to solve**
Write an equation with Slope= -1/2, and (3,2) is on the line **Use point slope to solve**
On your own problems to try!
Write an equation that goes through the points (1,-4) and (3,2) 1.Find Slope: 2. Use one of the points and the slope, and substitute into the point slope formula to find the equation:
Write an equation of a line if the x- intercept is -2, and the y-intercept is 4.
