MICHAEL IS A BOY WHOSE MUM AND DAD HAVE LOST THEIR JOBS. THEY DECIDED TO START A NEW LIFE AT SEA WITH THE PEGGY SUE [THEIR BOAT]. MICHAEL

THERE IS WATER EVERWHERE AND MICHAEL IS SOAKED. STELLA ARTOIS IS ALSO BARKING AT THE PORPOISES. MUM IS SEASICK BUT SHE IS STILL MAKING MICHAEL WRITE IN THE LOG BOOK.

MICHAEL, MUM AND DAD ARE TRAVELLING TO LOTS OF DIFFERENT PLACES LIKE AFRICA, BRAZIL AND OTHER PLACES TOO BUT ONE NIGHT WHEN MUM AND DAD WERE IN BED STELLA AND MICHAEL WENT OVER BOARD. THERE WAS NO ONE THERE WHO COULD SAVE THEM !

MICHAEL SHOUTED AND SCREAMED BUT NO ONE ANSWERED. HE SAW HIS FOOTBALL SO HE CLUNG ONTO IT AND CLOSED HIS EYES. WHEN HE WOKE UP HE WAS WASHED UP ON THE SAND. HE SAW STELLA AND SHE RAN OVER. HE HEARD A SCREECHING NOISE BUT IT WAS JUST THE GIBBONS.

Kensuke was small. The oldest man Michael had ever seen. He wore tattered breeches bunched at the waist and had a large knife. Michael lit a fire but Kensuke shouted at him. Kensuke split the island in two and Michael got the smaller half. He went in the sea but Kensuke shouted at him again.

Michael saw a super tanker in the distance. He shouted at the top of his voice and waved frantically. The tanker did not notice Michael. Then he promised himself he would never let a chance like that get away again. He spent hours on Watch Hill building his beacon. He missed his parents terribly. There was a storm and Michael took shelter in his cave. After the storm Michael went down and lay in the sea. “Yamero! Abunai! Dangerous. Understand?” Michael was furious and he jumped into the sea. splashing about. Suddenly he felt a searing pain – will he die?

Michael woke up in a cave and smelt vinegar. He felt that searing pain again and everything came flowing back to him. He had been stung by a jellyfish. He realised he could only move his eyes and saw Kensuke above him.

Kensuke had taken Michael in and started looking after him. Kensuke told Michael about how he was a doctor and that there was a big war in Japan and how his ship was damaged and he got washed up on the island. Soon Michael recovers and now he can move. Then he finds a bottle and puts a letter in it saying his name and how someone should come and find him. Soon Stella comes back with the bottle in his mouth and gives it to Kensuke.

KENSUKE WAS AT FIRST SAD BECAUSE OF THE BOTTLE BUT THEN REALISED THAT MICHAEL JUST WANTED HIS PARENTS..  So Kensuke said that the next day they would start making another beacon. That night Kensuke woke Michael up and told him to follow him. There were lots of turtles on the beach. Kensuke and Michael spent the night helping the turtles to get into the sea without getting eaten by the seagulls

Suddenly Michael saw a boat and shouted at Kensuke, “Fire, light fire!” Kensuke said it was the boat of the killer men and that they had to get the orang-utans and put them in the cave. Then they heard gun shots. Kensuke pointed to the sea. There was something white. They lit the fire. The boat was coming! It was the Peggy Sue. Michael could see his mother’s blue cap. Kensuke then told Michael that he was going to stay on the island then he told Michael to do three things,  Paint everyday  Think of him  Wait 10 years until Michael said anything about him Kensuke bowed to Michael and then Michael walked away. His mother hugged him and his father called him monkey face.
