Why talking Mifare and iCLASS the same week ? Because Mifare is to NXP, what iCLASS is to HID. iCLASS Mifare

MIFARE Mifare was introduced as the world’s first contactless ISO/IEC memory IC with cryptography, back in Since then, public and private organisations around the world have used Mifare as the foundation for all kinds of contactless SmartCard systems. Even though this technology has become a worldwide phenomenon, it is mostly used in the European market. North America is using the technology, but scarcely. Mifare is a passive technology.

iCLASS Its Evolution - HID had exclusive rights to Proximity (125 kHz format) - Proximity is a read-only technology - Around 2010, when Prox 125kHz exclusivity expired, HID released iCLASS - iCLASS became HID’s new exclusive format - iCLASS is a read-and-write technology - It is an even more secure technology than Proximity - In 2012, HID presented its iCLASS SE Platform, a reader / card that does everything - Same technology as iCLASS, but with a more expanded capabilities to be interoperable with other technologies - Now one card can be configured to do it all : SEOS, Indala, Awid, NFC, etc… HID : Transition from Proximity to iCLASS
