LIDO Meeting - Catania 13/01/ Giorgio Cacopardo Arrangement of PCB in LIDO E-POd

LIDO Meeting - Catania 13/01/ Giorgio Cacopardo Arrangement of PCB in LIDO E-POd LIDO E-Pod’s geometrical and physical properties. Connectors & cable Design goals & results. Internal arrangement of PCB. Lido Station’s frame. Cougar XT ROV’s features. Deployment procedures. In this presentation we talk about : Introduction:

External diameter: 170 mm Internal diameter: 135 mm Length: 830 mm Design pressure : 350 bar Operative pressure : 250 bar Material: Aluminium alloy 6082 T6 Surface treatment: Hard anodization coating Weight in air: ~ 26 Kg (without PCB) Weight in sea water: ~ 6,8 Kg (without PCB) LIDO E-Pod’s geometrical and physical properties : LIDO Meeting - Catania 13/01/ Giorgio Cacopardo Arrangement of PCB in LIDO E-POd

Two Seacon Micro Wet-Con bulkhead connector - 12 contacts – aluminium shell (to connect the beacons with LIDO station ) One Odi hybrid dry-mateable bulkhead connector - 3 optical fibers - 2 conductors – Titanium shell (to connect LIDO station with INFN junction box) One jumper hose cable, oil filled, 40 m long, with Rov wet mateable connector (INFN JB’s side) and hybrid dry-mateable connector (LIDO Station’s side) Connectors & cable LIDO Meeting - Catania 13/01/ Giorgio Cacopardo Arrangement of PCB in LIDO E-POd On the LIDO E-Pod’s cap there will be three connectors :

Design Goals: Limit the lenght of E-Pod (in order to avoid phenomenon of elastic instability, and also to reduce production costs of the E-Pod) Fixing the cap without the use of screw (in order to avoid galvanic corrosion between stainless steel and aluminium) Galvanic insulation between connectors and E-Pod (in order to avoid galvanic corrosion between connector’s shell and aluminium cap) Results : We use an old method of axial mounting, we insert a plastic wire in a groove, machined between cap and pipe (see the drawing) We interpose a PEEK (Polyetheretherketone) interface between aluminium cap and titanium connector LIDO Meeting - Catania 13/01/ Giorgio Cacopardo Arrangement of PCB in LIDO E-POd

Limit weight and dimension. Make indipendent the rack during integration and testing of the PCB, from the cap of the outer container. Simplification of the stages of integration of the PCB (it’s possible to opening the rack as a book) LIDO Meeting - Catania 13/01/ Giorgio Cacopardo Arrangement of PCB in LIDO E-POd Design Goals: FCM Board SCI Board Compass FPSM Board Acou Board Conversion board 380 VAC / 375 VDC Transformer Internal arrangement of PCB

External diameter: 129 mm Length: 725 mm Material: Aluminium alloy 6082 T6 Weight in air ~ 2,6 Kg ( without PCB ) Rack features : LIDO Meeting - Catania 13/01/ Giorgio Cacopardo Arrangement of PCB in LIDO E-POd

Overall height: ~ 3000 mm. The bottom beacons are ~ 1.5 m distant from the seabed. The upper beacon is ~ 2.5 m distant from the seabed. Material: Aluminium alloy Frame features : LIDO Meeting - Catania 13/01/ Giorgio Cacopardo Arrangement of PCB in LIDO E-POd Lido Station’s frame at moment the frame is under design, the likely shape of the frame will be this :

LIDO Meeting - Catania 13/01/ Giorgio Cacopardo Arrangement of PCB in LIDO E-POd Deployment procedures 1.We will use the TMS as a shuttle to deploy on the seabed the LIDO station’s frame hanged with it. 2.Near the seabed, with Rov’s sonar, we measure the distance between Rov and INFN JB 3.If the distance is correct we touch the seabed with Lido Station and then with an acoustic release system we'll leave the Lido station on the seabed 4.If the distance is not correct we will move the vessel in the right position and then we will operate as point 2 until we will get the right position, at the end we will operate as point 3. 5.After that we will unroll the hose from the Lido station frame in direction of INFN JB. 6.At this point we will mate the Odi ROV wet mateable connector with the bulkhead on the INFN JB. 7.We will perform our startup test. The test will be OK!! 8.We will recovery the Rov on board. For more information don’t hesitate to contact our marine operation manager Mario Musumeci at this address:
