TYPES OF WAVES: Transverse Wave: wave vibrates at right angle to direction of wave motion. (ex: light) crest: top of wave trough: bottom of wave

Longitudinal (Compressional) Wave: wave vibrates parallel to direction of wave motion. (ex: sound) compression – coils close together expansion (rarefaction) - coils spread apart How does sound move through the air? Sound moves as a series of expansions and compressions.
