WARNING YOU MAY FIND SOME OF THE IMAGES IN THIS BRIEF DISTRESSING. THEY COME FROM A RECOGNISED SAFETY CAMPAIGN THAT HAS BEEN USED IN AMERICA TO ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO DO THE RIGHT THING. PLEASE LISTEN HARD TO THE MESSAGE BUT SOME MIGHT CHOOSE NOT TO LOOK AT ALL OF THE PICTURES WHILST THE DETAILS COVER DRINK DRIVING, THINK OF THE OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES THAT COULD LEAD TO A SIMILAR OUTCOME. Regret, despair, sadness, pain, helpless, hopeless, distraught, lost, empty, devastated, broken (did you come up with any we missed?)

Q What do you think could cause somebody to look like this? Choosing to drink and drive Choosing to drink and drive Causing the crash that caused Jacqueline’s injuries Causing the crash that caused Jacqueline’s injuries Killing 2 of Jacqueline’s mates Killing 2 of Jacqueline’s mates Going to prison at 17 Going to prison at 17 Spending 8 years in a tough jail in Texas Spending 8 years in a tough jail in Texas Facing the rest of his life trying to cope with the guilt Facing the rest of his life trying to cope with the guilt Spending every second wishing he could turn back the clock Spending every second wishing he could turn back the clock THAT’S WHAT CAUSES REGINALD TO LOOK LIKE THIS! THIS IS REGINALD STEPHEY

I was on the football field on Friday and in prison on Sunday I was on the football field on Friday and in prison on Sunday All of a sudden I was by myself All of a sudden I was by myself I had never been in trouble before in my life I had never been in trouble before in my life That ONE TIME I made a horrible decision That ONE TIME I made a horrible decision That ONE TIME was all it took That ONE TIME was all it took Anyone can end up in prison Anyone can end up in prison Drinking and driving isn’t a joke, it’s real Drinking and driving isn’t a joke, it’s real I can’t describe how it feels knowing the damage I’ve caused I can’t describe how it feels knowing the damage I’ve caused Prison is nothing compared with the life sentence of knowing what I did Prison is nothing compared with the life sentence of knowing what I did WHAT REGINALD SAID

“The man who done this to me has ruined my life” WHAT JACQUELINE SAID I don’t think she needs to say any more does she? Jacqueline now works hard to tell young people about the risks of drunk driving – don’t ignore her. She has had to pay an extreme price to teach you this lesson don’t waste it !

THIS IS JAQUELINE NOW Jacqueline has had over 40 operations and faces many more The only safe option is not to drink alcohol if you plan to drive, and never offer an alcoholic drink to someone else who is intending to drive

AND FINALLY… WHILST THE PREVIOUS SLIDES FOCUSED ON DRINK DRIVING, PLEASE, EVERY TIME YOU GET IN A CAR or VAN JUST THINK OF THE OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES THAT COULD LEAD TO A SIMILAR OUTCOME and BEHAVE SAFELY! WE UNDERSTAND YOU CANNOT CONTROL THE BEHAVIOURS OF OTHERS ON THE ROAD, BUT YOU CAN CONTROL YOURS!! REMEMBER
