Here is how it Works A common assessment is given for reading and math. Students are placed in flex groups for reading and math based upon the results of this assessment. Each teacher will provide the necessary instruction for her group of students in order for them to be successful. This will look different in each classroom. We will re-assess the students before each new unit and will make changes at that time based on student scores, if there is a need.

If your student needs more instruction on phonics in reading that teacher will put a stronger emphasis on phonics. If your child has a stronger background in phonics, there will be less instruction on phonics and a stronger emphasis on comprehension/vocabulary.

Flex grouping is based on skill sets. ( it NOT about being a high, average or low student) Some kids will grasp certain concepts better than others. Therefore, if they need extra help we can spend more time on that concept. If they have already grasped the concept then we want to move on.
