By: Andrew Johnson Michael Faraday

About Mr. Faraday ● Born: 22-Sept-1791 in Newington Butts, England ● Died: 25-Aug-1867 ● And he was a famous Physicist ● Founded Electrochemistry

Faraday's Life ● He was the son of a blacksmith and received little formal education. ● Was Sir Humphry Davy assistant. ● Was Married to Sarah Faraday

The Electric Motor ● He was most famous for the electric Motor ● Electric motors are found in applications like industrial fans, machine tools, household appliances, power tools, and disk drives. ● Also in battery powered portable device or motor vehicle, electric wristwatches. motors are used for propulsion of ships, pipeline compressors.

Inventions ● Faraday cup ● Faraday wheel ● Faraday rotator ● And the Faraday cage

Faraday's Laws of Electrolysis ● Second law: For a given quantity of electricity (electric charge), the mass of an elemental material altered at an electrode is directly proportional to the element's equivalent weight. ● First law: The mass of a substance altered at an electrode during electrolysis is directly proportional to the quantity of electricity transferred at that electrode.

Faraday's law of induction ● Any change in the magnetic environment of a coil of wire will cause a voltage (emf) to be "induced" in the coil. No matter how the change is produced, the voltage will be generated. The change could be produced by changing the magnetic field strength, moving a magnet toward or away from the coil, moving the coil into or out of the magnetic field, rotating the coil relative to the magnet, etc.

Copley Medal (1832 & 1838) ● The Copley Medal is the highest award from the Royal Society of London. ● Faraday got it for his discovery of Magneto- Electricity as detailed in his Experimental Researches in Electricity.

Rumford Medal (1846) ● The Rumford Medal is Awarded by the Royal Society for "outstandingly important recent discovery in the field of thermal or optical properties of matter made by a scientist working in Europe." ● Faraday won it for his discovery of the optical phenomena developed by the action of magnets and electric currents in certain transparent media.
