Graphs... Can describe real situations. Show relationships between two variables.

Classifying Data In this lesson you have worked with variables such as time and distance.

Classifying Data Variables represent data values that are discrete or continuous.

Continuous Data usually involve a measurement, such as temperature, length, or weight.

Example: Height of a plant for five days.

Continuous The plant continues to grow between the times its height is measured.

Discrete Data involve a count, such as a number of people or objects.

Example: Class attendance for five days.

Discrete Each day’s count is distinct. There is no meaning for values between Monday’s and Tuesday’s counts.
