LEARNING MENU INSTRUCTION 21 ST CENTURY INSTRUCTIONAL PLAN: STUDENT POPULATION DENISE W. HALL COURSE EDU 645: LEARNING & ASSESSMENTS FOR 21 ST CENTURY DR. AMY GRAY, ED.D MARCH 26, 2014

THE IMPACT OF DIFFERENTIATED INSTRUCTION AND ASSESSMENT THE TEACHER WAS ABLE TO ASSESS FOR THE ULTIMATE GOAL OF STUDENTS READING, WRITING, THINKING, AND SPEAKING CRITICALLY ABOUT GLOBAL TOPICS WITH THE USE OF STUDENTS CREATING FIVE PROJECTS: 1. WEBSITE-this gives the students thoughts of what a website they would look like if they were the web designer speaking on Global history. This allows the students to use critical thinking to put in the website areas to promote the particular country they are writing about. It also uses thinking skills of what information to use. 2. GRAPHIC ORGANIZER-paraphrase information and understanding of content from their resources. It also allows students to structure their writing in this format. 3. TRAVEL BROCHURE-they will create a brochure as if they were showing or advertising that particular country for people to visit. This brochure helps the student to speak critically about global topics about the country they are researching. It also should be written to persuade people to travel to that country. 4. TIMELINES-student think about what steps it took the people in these countries to accomplish certain activites. 5. EULOGIES-this written assignment goes into the lives of people during that period of history.

THE TEACHERS LESSON SHOWS SHE IS PREPARING HER STUDENTS FOR MULTIPLE ASSESSMENT TYPES WITH: Quiz, timelines, creating a website, travel brochure and graphic organizer. These activities fit in with summative, formative and creative assessments. These multiple assessments gives the teacher a variety of skills being assessed; reading, writing, thinking and speaking critically. The data that is collected from all these types of assessment will give her a good view of the students understanding.

THE STUDENTS CHOICE IS VERY IMPORTANT IN DIFFERENTIATED INSTRUCTION BECAUSE: That child knows what they are comfortable doing in their learning, now they can chose what type of classroom activity they may use in getting the assignment completed. A person knows how they learn the best in comprehending information. For example, when the student chose to create a travel brochure. Maybe that student new they felt comfortable with using pictures/illustrations and outline form in persuasive writing. Each child learns different and having a choice of learning activities allows students to be responsible in their own learning.

THE NEW IDEA THAT I CHOSE FROM THIS LESSON AND HOW I COULD USE IT OR MODIFY FOR MY OWN INSTRUCTION IS: The learning menu taught me that I could use lots of assessments in one given lesson. For example, the last instructional designed I turned in from week 4-I could have students draw a picture of the place their families immigrated from. Or maybe have students create a timeline of the steps it took their parents to arrange to come to America.

THE END ADDRESSING QUESTIONS ABOUT DIFFERENTIATING WITH LEARNING MENUS FROM THE VIDEO, “DIFFERENTIATING WITH LEARNING MENUS.”
