Team Tres By: Erin Tibbetts and Ryan Schnepper Project name: Music to Your Ears

Team Colt Client  Sarah can only hear out of one ear.  Speakers are available in the classroom.  She is possibly dyslexic.  Easily frustrated by homework, especially with spelling words.  Statement of need: Sarah needs to learn her spelling words independently.

Requirements and Constraints  Safe product  Finished in given time  Less than $150  Looks appealing  Uncomplicated  She needs to be able to hear it easily.  Efficient power source  Transportable  Durability  Usable for easy and complex spelling words.  Product should be fun and stress free for our client.

Market  Existing technology than could be used: word processors, reading systems, phonetic spelling, and speech recognition. All of the above technologies have been modified to help people with dyslexia.  Our client also stated that the speakers available at school were very expensive.

Puzzle Piece Spelling  Fun and easy way to learn.  Colorful = reduction in stress  Recordable device built in.  More independence. ABCDEF HIJKL WV UT M G N OPQRS ZYX

 Design will reduce stress associated with homework.  More independence. Less reliance on her mother.  Encourages Sarah to learn spelling words.  Lots of buttons means a lot of inputs.  Time consuming. ProsCons

Keyboard Spelling  Existing keyboard modified with buttons that represent spelling words.  Spelling words recorded ahead of time.  Hear word->spell it out on keyboard.  Leds on the keyboard to show if was right or wrong.  Each word is a key on the keyboard  When spelling word key is pressed, board knows order the keys for word.

 Less Building Time  Our client will learn by hearing and typing.  Simplistic and user friendly.  Very plain  Client’s mother would need to be involved.  Connecting the recorder and the keyboard to react with button pushing would be difficult. ProsCons

Final Project Idea  We originally decided that we would combine the two ideas for our final project.  We hoped to use a keyboard with only letters or numbers.  This would solve the issue of having too many inputs.

Xylophone project  Spelling software already available SpellQuizzer $30.00 iSpellWell $30.00 ABC 4 Kids Workshop  Alternative Project: Xylophone
