Presentation transcript:

1 Alex Woods March 6 Aerothermodynamics Group Force Results for Current Models

Normal Force  Model scales Normal force with both Mach Number and Angle of Attack Inputs  Pitching Moment and Axial Force (Drag) vary similarly  Center of Pressure at α = 0 is at roughly 39% of the length from the nosetip, for all three cases Figure by Alex Woods and Jayme Zott

Structural Forces  Shear Forces are less than expected using the current model  For all models, transonic values are at best a guess, due to model inadequacy Figure by Alex Woods and Jayme Zott

References  Ashley, Holt, Engineering Analysis of Flight Vehicles, Dover Publications Inc., New York, 1974, pp  Anderson, John D., Fundamentals of Aerodynamics, Mcgraw-Hill Higher Education, 2001  Jayme Zott for substantial assistance in troubleshooting and integrating the code, as well as tabulating results
