chains I chose chains because the title of the book is Chains and the main character is a slave. When you say “chains” you think of slaves.

boat I chose a boat because Isabel, the main character, travels to New York on a boat.

Statue of Liberty I chose a picture of the Statue of Liberty because Isabel moves to New York from Rhode Island. es/statue-of-liberty/statue-of-liberty-l.jpg

baby shoes I chose baby shoes because Isabel wears shoes that are too small, they are like baby shoes.

food I chose food because Isabel gives food to her friend who is in prison. He is a soldier/slave. When the British took over New York they put him in jail.

doll Isabel made a doll out of cornhusks and cloth to give to her younger sister.

“I” I chose the letter “I” because Isabel was branded with an “I” for insolence for trying to escape. iles/photos/ught-iron-house-letter-i-LET-I- 2.jpg

horse crop I chose a horse crop because Isabel is whipped with a horse crop. spheres.com/auctionpix/S/Whip_Riding_Cro p.jpg

Union Jack I chose the Union Jack, the British flag, because Isabel’s owners are Torries. Torries are Americans who side with the British. g.jpg
