AIMS AND REQUIREMENTS To grasp the usual expressions of a trade Fair; To master how to communicate during the Fair; To know how to get the useful information after the Fair.

Ⅰ. Useful expressions A. asking information about the Fair 1. Where can I get some useful information about trade fairs? 2. Can is reserve a booth now? 3. What’s the capacity of your exhibition hall? 4. Do you have any special requirements for the exhibition hall? 5. Do you need an aisle carpet? 6. In order to let more foreign friends know about our products and to enlarge our market as well, we’d like to take part in some international trade shows. 7. You can get the main exhibitions schedule for this year and next year from the Chamber of Commerce. 8. How about the price? Please check the cost of attendance for us. 9. We don’t need the whole booth. Can we share a booth with others? 10. What about laying out colorful flags on both sides of the corridor? 11. When will the exhibits be sent there?

B. conversation during the Fair 1. Here is my business/ name card. These are the samples of our newly developed products. Please have a look. 2. If you want to buy a large quantity, we can give you a discount. 3. We have come to this show in order to let more people know about our new products as well as our country. 4. After seeing the demonstration, you’ll know how to use our products. 5. You can find our telephone number and address in the brochure I give you or from the business directory. We hope we’ll keep in touch. 6. What’s your room number? I’ll send our samples to your hotel tonight. 7. We provide separate F&B (food and beverage) service areas in each exhibition hall. 8. You should take advantage of the opportunity. 9. The United States still keeps the British measure system and uses the metric system as well.

C. getting feedback after the Fair 1. In order to make the trade fair better next time, we’d like to have your suggestions for improvements. 2. The price of the booth is not cheap. 3. How about the stands? 4. I think the hall should be made brighter light. 5. Where can I get some useful information for the next trade fairs? 6. We didn’t have time to say good-bye to you because we were busy tearing down the display and shipping the exhibits back. 7. I’m leaving for China this evening. I’d like to settle my bill right away. 8. I should say without their hard work, the show wouldn’t have been so successful. 9. We’d like to have a business talk with you soon. 10. The next fair for Household Electrical Appliances will still be in the New Complex at Pazhou. 11. I’m read to answer the question you asked at the trade show.

Ⅱ Dialogue Mr. Smith has come to the booth of Ms. Li and Ms. Li is introducing something about the products to Mr. Smith. L: Good morning, sir. Welcome to out booth. These are the samples of our newly developed products. There are different models, sizes and colors for you to choose from. Please have a look. S: Thank you. L: We also have a symposium in the hall, our engineer will give you a demonstration. After seeing the demonstration, you’ll know how to use our product. S: I’d love to watch it. (after watching) L: What do you think of our products? S: Pretty new. L: Our main purpose for coming to the fair is to let more people know about our products. It was really a good opportunity to let people know about our company and through the fair we learned something from other exhibitors. S: The Chinese products are really good. But the prices are too high.

L: Well, we should consider the quality first, of course if you want to buy a large quantity, we can give you a discount. We also hope to have a business talk with you soon. S: OK. I’ll think it over. Well, I’d like to go to other booths to see more first and find some other items I’d like to order, and then I’ll come back. L: You may, please. S: Can I have one of these samples? L: Sorry. They are the only ones left. But I’ll get some for you later. Can I have your name card please? S: Yes, here is my business card. L: This is mine. You can also find our telephone number and address in the brochure I have given you or from the business directory. Which hotel are you staying at? What’s your room number? I’ll send the samples to your hotel this evening. S: OK. I’ll write it down for you. L: See you this evening. S: See you then.

Ⅳ. Communicative Tasks Work with your partner to create to create your own dialogues with the situation and tips given below. Task 1 Situation 1: You are Mr. Ma, a clerk from Shanghai Dragon Exhibition Company and are answering a phone call from exhibit prospect who would like to get some information about Exhibitor Pre- Registration at the 5th Shanghai Auto Exposition.
