One Great Creator September 4

Think about it … When has an invention or discovery blown your mind? Modern inventions and newly created devices amaze us – God’s creations … us among them … are even more amazing – Today we consider how God created us … and He knows each of us

God’s Creation and Control How many stars do you think there are? Millions? Billions? Trillions? Scientists can only estimate … stars 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 stars Listen to what the psalmist says about so many stars

Psalm 33:6-9 (NLT) The Lord merely spoke, and the heavens were created. He breathed the word, and all the stars were born. [7] He gave the sea its boundaries and locked the oceans in vast reservoirs. [8] Let everyone in the world fear the Lord, and let everyone stand in awe of him. [9] For when he spoke, the world began! It appeared at his command

God’s Creation and Control How has the Lord demonstrated His creativity?  God created something out of nothing Contrast what we consider “creativity” … – Paint a picture with canvas and paints – Chip away at a piece of wood or stone to get a sculpture – Write music notes on paper for voice or instrument

God’s Creation and Control What does the fact that God created all things through His word alone say about His power? What emotions should we have when we consider God’s creative work? What are the implications of accepting the reality of a Creator?

God’s Creation and Control Why is authority an unpopular word and idea? How does God treat those who resist His authority? What, then, are the advantages of submitting to God’s authority?

Listen for God’s involvement with His creation. Psalm 33:13-15 (NIV) From heaven the LORD looks down and sees all mankind; 14 from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth-- 15 he who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do.

God is Involved with His Creation List the words or phrases that describe God’s awareness of what goes on in the world. Do you find it comforting or disturbing that God knows everything about you? Explain. Where do we see evidence of God’s care and concern in the world today? ComfortingDisturbing

God is Involved with His Creation Where do people who do not know God place their trust? What is the advantage of placing our trust in God instead of human resources? What are the results of trusting and obeying God as the ultimate authority in our lives? How will you change your life to stand in awe of Him and tremble before Him?

Listen for a description of Christ. Colossians 1:15-17 (NIV) He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

Jesus Is the Preeminent One What is Christ’s relationship to God? What is Christ’s relationship to Creation? How do "all things... hold together" under Christ? How can the truth that God created all things impact your life this week?

Application Evaluate. – Does your life say you know God personally or just know about Him? – Acknowledge the preeminence and lordship of Christ in your life. – Tell God you want Him to be in charge

Application Study. – Broaden your understanding of the scientific view of creation by reading a book such as Holman QuickSource Guide to Understanding Creation (Nashville: B&H, 2008).

Application Invest – Invest in someone this week and tell what the created order communicates to you about God. – Use this conversation as an opportunity to point to Jesus Christ.
