Brief About the Event : We have participated in Steel Mart 2013 exhibition organised by CII, Sector-31, Chandigarh from 26 th Nov’13 to 27 th Nov’13. Some of the well known steel & allied products manufacturers and service providers participated in the exhibition by putting their stalls. Besides us, other main participants were Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (TMT bars & Plate), Mangla Sons (ducts, Galvano & Stainless Steel) and Madhav Group (TMT). A conference was also organised on 27 th Nov’13 on Steel – An Economy Driver, which was addressed by eminent personalities like Mr. Karan Avtar Singh, Principal Secretary for Industries & Commerce department, Punjab, Dr. A.S. Firoz, Chief Economist, Ministry of Steel, Govt. Of India, Mr. V.R. Sharma Deputy Managing Director & CEO Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. and Mr. Sushim Banerjee Director General, Institute for Steel Development and growth. Our stall attracted many visitors. The queries / information asked by visitors was provided to their full satisfaction. We have also distributed prospectus & leaflets of TATA Steelium & TATA Astrum. The profiles of the exhibitors was also included in the conference booklet distributed to all the participants. The news was carried in all the main newspapers of the region and telecasted in local news channels covering the exhibition.

News Coverage in Indian Express Newspaper ‘Steel is key driving factor in economy’ Express News Service : Chandigarh | Thu Nov , 00:36 hrs Stating that the steel industry is the key driving factor in an economy, the principal secretary of the Industries and Commerce department in Punjab, Karan Avtar Singh, on Wednesday said steps were needed to revitalise the sector in Punjab and northern region. “Cluster development, upgradation of skills, reduction of power tariff, removal of entry taxes and technology upgradation are some measures that should be adopted urgently to revolutionize the steel sector in Punjab and the region,” Singh said while speaking at the Confederation of Indian Industry’s (CII) Steel Mart. The conference, aimed at deliberating upon opportunities, best practices, application of latest technologies, challenges and ways to boost steel sector was organized at CII, Chandigarh on Wednesday. Leaders and experts from the Steel industry discussed measures to boost the region’s steel production. Lamenting Punjab’s present steel sector scenario, Avtar Singh said, “Though North India contributes about 16 percent of India’s annual steel production, unlike other northern states like Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, Punjab is the only net importer of primary steel”. He added that the Amritsar-Kolkata Industrial Corridor will act as a boon for Punjab. A S Firoz, chief economist, Economic Research Unit, Ministry of Steel, Government of India, who delivered the keynote address said that the northern region had enormous potential. V R Sharma, deputy managing director and CEO of Jindal Steel and Power Limited said, “States like Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan are the largest consumers of defence equipment, but it is surprising that very less production takes place in the region. Elimination of inter- state barriers, affordable power tariff systems like in Orissa and Madhya Pradesh and introduction of price variation clause based of demand and supply can work wonders.” Land acquisition, regulatory clearances challenges in steel sector, says CII-Accenture study Chandigarh: According to a study conducted by Accenture, a global management consulting company, in collaboration with Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) ‘Land acquisition and regulatory clearances pose major challenges to new Greenfield investments in steel sector’. The study states that ‘Delays in the government allocating sufficient iron ore blocks, regulatory approvals and challenges in land acquisition slowed steel projects.’ According to the study, regulatory clearances and land acquisition challenges have affected expansion and modernisation projects. Major investments from leading MNCs and large Indian corporates across Karnataka, Odisha, Jharkhand and West Bengal have been affected due to land acquisition challenges. The study further states that power shortages and rupee depreciation has impacted the industry adversely in the north.

News Coverage in Amar Ujala Hindi Daily News Paper अगर ये सपोर्ट मिला तो टॉप लिस्ट में आएगा स्टील सेक्टर ब्यूरो गुरुवार, 28 नवंबर 2013 अमर उजाला, चंडीगढ़ 2:45 PM IST घर के बर्तन से लेकर इंडस्ट्री की बड़ी मशीनें तक बिना स्टील के नहीं बनती हैं। यही कारण है अब स्टील को चाहिए सपोर्ट। चाहे टैक्स हो या फिर पावर, सपोर्ट मिला तो यह सेक्टर टॉप लिस्ट में अपना नाम दर्ज कराएगा। कंफेडरेशन ऑफ इंडियन इंडस्ट्री में आयोजित स्टील मार्ट के दौरान मौजूद विशेषज्ञों की माने तो स्टील सेक्टर के लिए सबसे आवश्यक है पावर के रेट्स में कटौती करना और टैक्स में छूट देना। कंफेडरेशन ऑफ इंडियन इंडस्ट्री सेक्टर -31 में आयोजित स्टील मार्ट में पंजाब सरकार के इंडस्ट्री आर कॉमर्स के प्रिंसिपल सचिव करन अवतार सिंह ने कहा कि स्किल का अपग्रेडेशन, बिजली के दामों में कटौती, टेक्नोलॉजी का अपग्रेडेशन और इंट्री टैक्स हटाने से स्टील सेक्टर में रेवेल्यूशन आएगा। उन्होंने कहा कि पंजाब में स्टील सेक्टर के लिए एक विशेष इंडस्ट्रियल पॉलिसी तैयार करने की आवश्यकता है। खासतौर से आटोमोबाइल, ट्रांसपोर्टेशन, कैपिटल प्रोजेक्ट इंफ्रास्ट्रक्चर, डिफेंस इक्युपमेंट और हैवी मशीनरी के लिए स्टील ही जरूरी है। नार्थ इंडिया देश की कुल स्टील प्रोडक्शन में सोलह फीसदी का साझेदार है। पंजाब, हरियाणा, राजस्थान और अन्य नॉर्दर्न स्टेट्स की अपेक्षा प्राइमरी स्टील का आयातक है। उन्होंने कहा कि मैन्युफैक्चर्स के साथ प्राइमरी और सेकेंडरी स्टील सेक्टर के बीच तालमेल बनाना आवश्यक है। मिनिस्ट्री ऑफ स्टील भारत सरकार के चीफ इकोनामिस्ट डॉ. एएस फिरोज ने कहा कि स्टील सेक्टर के ग्रोथ के लिए यहां कई महत्वपूर्ण आवश्यकताएं हैं। जिंदल स्टील एंड पावर लिमिटेड के सीईओ वीआर शर्मा ने कहा कि नॉर्दर्न स्टेट्स खासतौर से पंजाब, हरियाणा, राजस्थान में सबसे ज्यादा डिफेंस इक्युपमेंट की आवश्यकता है। स्टील को फ्री फ्लो प्रोडक्ट बनना चाहिए। उन्होंने कहा कि स्टील सेक्टर के लिए पावर टैरिफ तीन रुपये प्रति यूनिट कर दिया जाना चाहिए। एसेंचर इंडिया के मैनेजमेंट कंसलटेंट अजय नायर ने कहा कि रेगुलेशन और नार्म, दामों में परिवर्तन के साथ कच्चे माल की उपलब्धता स्टील सेक्टर के लिए चैलेंज है। सीआईआई चंडीगढ़ काउंसिल के वाइस चेयरमैन दर्पण कपूर ने कहा कि स्टील सेक्टर में पिछले पांच साल के दौरान सात फीसदी सीएजीआर की ग्रोथ हो रही है। सीआईआई पंजाब स्टेट काउंसिल के सदस्य एएस चीमा ने कहा कि घरेलू स्टील की डिमांड के लिए यहां क्षमता की कमी नहीं है।
