2 Cassini & Thematic Science Teachers Assoc (CSTA) Built on the award-winning “Reading, Writing and Rings” Partnered by Cassini and Planetary Programs Thematic Funding Students learn to think like scientists– keeping notebooks in which to observe and record their observations. Program includes video-biography of scientists in the field/lab to supplement written materials. Rachel Zimmerman Brachman and Solar System Educator Julie Taylor gave three presentations at the California Science Education Conference in Sacramento, CA on October 22-24, 2010: One on Cassini's Reading, Writing & Rings and two on Our Solar System Through the Eyes of Scientists 65 teachers participated in the workshops and short course. Feedback: “very pleased” with the presentations, and plan to use these materials in their classrooms. Approximately 1,300 teachers attended the CSTA conference. Product will be available for download on NASA’s Solar System Web site: ( Outcome 2: Objective 2.3 Curricular Support Resources (Educate and Engage)

Cassini Scientist for a Day Essay Contest Record # of entries! Contest deadline: October 27, 2010 Support by United Nations Space Generation Advisory Council and International Year of Astronomy Over 1,000 U.S. students from 67 classrooms in 23 states participated in the essay contest. 30 countries on six continents are running parallel Cassini Scientist for a Day essay contests as well.

8 Eyes on the Solar System tracks EPOXI’s encounter with Comet Hartley 8 In November, Eyes did this... Roll out of the EPOXI module including narrated tours of the spacecraft, the Deep Impact mission and the EPOXI extended mission. Realtime visualization of the EPOXI Hartley 2 flyby for use by NASA TV and the Deep Space Network control room during the live broadcast of the event The exact same visualization available in realtime for the public within their browser as part of the EPOXI module Use of Eyes.. to produce quicktime movies for a media briefing about EPOXI next week. Nov 1st to 12th inclusive, Eyes has received total page views of: 25,283 Reviewed by Universe Today, and mentioned by SpaceRef, The Planetary Society, and positive feedback from the web via social media “This is amazing. I am stunned by the range and depth of features, and the crispness of the visuals” "This thing is incredible. If you're into space exploration and haven't seen it yet, you should give it a go." Screen grab of “Eyes” Hartley encounter Astronomer Malcolm Hartley and wife watch “Eyes” Eyes provides real time visualization of EPOXI mission flyby of comet 103P/Hartley 2 on November 4
