Slaughter in Bethlehem Jeremiah 31:15 Thus says the LORD: "A voice was heard in Ramah, Lamentation and bitter weeping, Rachel weeping for her children, Refusing to be comforted for her children, Because they are no more."

Slaughter in Bethlehem Adam Clark commentary The Ramah mentioned here, (for there were several towns of this name,) was situated in the tribe of Benjamin, about six or seven miles from Jerusalem. Near this place Rachel was buried; who is here, in a beautiful figure of poetry, represented as coming out of her grave, and lamenting bitterly for the loss of her children, none of whom presented themselves to her view, all being slain or gone into exile.

Who Is This Child? John 1 He was in the beginning He was with God He was [is] God He became flesh and dwelt among us All things were made through Him In Him was life John was not the Light

Who Is This Child? He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him He would give the right to become children of God to those who received Him, to those who would believe in His name He would bring grace and truth

Seed of David Barnes commentary (2.) Most interpreters have supposed that Matthew gives the genealogy of Joseph, and Luke that of Mary. They were both descended from David, but in different lines. This solution derives some plausibility from the fact that the promise was made to David; and as Jesus was not the son of Joseph, it was important to show that Mary was also descended from him. Though this solution is plausible, and may be true, yet it wants evidence. It cannot, however, be proved that this was not the design of Luke.

About My Father’s Business… Maybe better–“In My Father’s House” Similar use of “My Father” My Father My God  go to My brethren and say to them, I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God” (John 20:17) making it personal

About My Father’s Business… He desired it. He loved it. Tending to the things of His Father was not only His duty, it was a natural part of His very Being (John 6:38). He desired it. He loved it. It grew out of a deep personal consciousness of His kinship with Almighty God (John 8:28-29). Like Jesus, we should know that one’s private relationship with the Father is fostered by spiritual worship and study in the house of God. Truth Commentary making it personal We just talked about travelling to Jerusalem three times a year to be in God’s house.
