Ashley Naubert Integrated Learning Assignment

Grade Level Content Expectation First Grade Economics Market Economy 1-E : Using examples explain why people cannot have everything they want (scarcity) and describe how people respond

Books A New Coat for Anna Anna's mother does not have the money to buy Anna a new coat, and even if she did, the shops did not have anything to sell due to post World War II shortages. Students will learn that they can sometimes get the things they want without money by trading/bartering things they have so that both sides benefit. They will also learn that sometimes we can't get what we want as soon as we want it. Sometimes we have to plan ahead to reach our goals and when we do reach them, they are even sweeter.

Books The Mitten A story about a little boy who loses his snow-white mitten in the snow. Some small animals find the mitten and move into it, thinking that it would make a good home. Then some funny things begin to happen. The story show some ways in which things can go wrong when there isn’t enough of something to go around

Book Mama is a Miner A daughter describes her mother's job working as a miner in the coal fields of Appalachia.

Book Alexander, Who Used to be Rich Last Sunday Alexander and his money are quickly parted yet he realizes there are many things a dollar can do.

Text Book Fiance for Kidz “Dr. Dheeriya’s book on finance for kids fills a pressing need for a book written in simple story form where small boys and girls who are able to read can identify themselves with characters in the stories and see how it benefits them. Basic topics are presented in an engaging manner, so as to get kids interested in various aspects of economics.”
