A LEVEL C HEMISTRY INVESTIGATIONS

A Level Biology and Chemistry are changing from September 2015 AS exams are stand-alone qualifications. For students who take full A Level, grade depends solely on their performance in the A Level papers at the end of the course which is after 2 years. Students can take AS exams and then go on to A Level but their A Level grade will not include results from AS examinations they sat.

A Level Biology - AQA examination board six of the required practical activities Students will carry out at least six of the required practical activities that are recommended by AQA examination board. Students will be sitting for two externally examined papers. Each paper is 1hour 30minutes long and is worth 75marks. In both papers all the 4 topics and the relevant practical skills will be assessed. The papers will include short answer questions worth 65marks and extended response questions worth 10marks. Overall, a minimum of 10% of the marks across both papers will be awarded for mathematics at Level 2 or above.

A Level Chemistry - EDEXCEL examination board eight core practical experiments Students will carry out eight core practical experiments that are identified by the Edexcel examination board. New AS papers include questions on mathematical skills. There will be 2 papers examined at the end of the first year; each paper is hour and half long and worth 80 marks. The papers will include multiple-choice, short open, open- response, calculations and extended writing questions. The paper will also include questions that target mathematics at Level 2 or above. Overall, a minimum of 20% of the marks across both papers will be awarded for mathematics at Level 2 or above
