FEARED I SAMUEL 12:12-22

THINK ABOUT IT… WHAT DO WE FEAR?

THINK ABOUT IT… IF YOU WERE ASKED TO SPEAK TO A GROUP, OR EVEN AN INDIVIDUAL, ABOUT THE PATH YOUR LIFE HAS TAKEN, WHAT ARE SOME DETAILS YOU WOULD INCLUDE?

I SAMUEL – RECAP I SAM. 8 – SAMUEL GREW OLD APPOINTED HIS CROOKED SONS TO BE JUDGES PEOPLE COMPLAINED AND ASKED FOR A KING TO JUDGE THEM.

I SAMUEL - RECAP SAMUEL WAS ANGRY AND PRAYED. GOD TOLD HIM TO ANNOUNCE TO THE PEOPLE THAT THEY WOULD BE GIVEN A KING, BUT HE (GOD) WAS DISPLEASED WITH THE PEOPLE. What can we learn from Samuel’s actions?

I SAMUEL - RECAP SAMUEL WARNED THE PEOPLE… THE NEW KING WILL REQUIRE THEM TO WORK FOR HIM AND GO TO WAR FOR HIM. THE KING WILL TAKE A TENTH OF ALL THE PEOPLE HAVE. GOD WILL NOT TAKE AWAY THE KING WHEN THE PEOPLE COMPLAIN.

“ ” TODAY YOU HAVE REJECTED YOUR GOD, WHO SAVES YOU FROM ALL YOUR CALAMITIES AND YOUR DISTRESSES, AND YOU HAVE SAID TO HIM, ‘SET A KING OVER US.’ I SAMUEL 10:19 Consider what has happened in the history of mankind (or even Christianity).

SIGNIFICANCE OF SAUL… HIS HUMILITY HIS CONCERN FOR HIS NEIGHBORS. HIS ZEAL FOR THE SAFETY AND HONOR OF ISRAEL. THE AUTHORITY AND POWER HE EXERTED ON THIS OCCASION. HIS FAITH AND CONFIDENCE. HIS INDUSTRY AND CLOSE APPLICATION TO THIS BUSINESS. HIS SUCCESS.

I SAMUEL 12 A TURNING POINT IN THE PEOPLE’S HISTORY… SAMUEL USED THE OCCASION OF SAUL’S BECOMING KING TO MAKE HIS OWN FAREWELL SPEECH.

I SAMUEL 12:1-5 HE HAD BEEN A MINISTER TO THE PEOPLE HIS ENTIRE LIFE. THE WEIGHT OF THE WORK HAD TAKEN A TOLL ON HIM. HE WANTED THE ASSURANCE OF THE PEOPLE THAT THEY HAD NOTHING TO HOLD AGAINST HIM. Why was it important to Samuel to account for his ‘career’?

I SAMUEL 12:6-11 SAMUEL LED THE PEOPLE TO REMEMBER… GOODNESS DISCIPLINE DELIVERANCE INSTRUCTION THROUGH THE PROPHETS What do you think God would want us to remember today?

I SAMUEL 12:12-15 SAMUEL LED THE PEOPLE TO REMEMBER… GOD WAS TAKING CARE OF YOU, BUT IT WASN’T GOOD ENOUGH. YOU FEARED AN EARTHLY KING AND DEMANDED YOUR OWN KING. YOU GOT WHAT YOU WANTED. What fears cause us to bypass God and try to function in our own strength? Why?

I SAMUEL 12:16-22 SAMUEL’S OBJECT LESSON…

TAKEAWAYS… SOMETIMES GOD ALLOWS US TO HAVE / DO SOMETHING HE KNOWS WILL NOT HAVE THE RESULT WE INTEND. GOD WILL JUDGE OUR ACTIONS, BUT HE WILL ALSO EXTEND HIS GRACE WHEN WE FAIL.

TAKEAWAYS… GOD PLACES SPIRITUAL LEADERS / MENTORS IN OUR LIVES TO PROVIDE ENCOURAGEMENT AND PRAYER SUPPORT.

“TRUST AND OBEY”… WHEN WE WALK WITH THE LORD IN THE LIGHT OF HIS WORD, WHAT A GLORY HE SHEDS ON OUR WAY.

“TRUST AND OBEY”… LET US DO HIS GOOD WILL, HE ABIDES WITH US STILL, AND WITH ALL WHO WILL TRUST AND OBEY.

“TRUST AND OBEY”… BUT WE NEVER CAN PROVE THE DELIGHTS OF HIS LOVE UNTIL ALL ON THE ALTAR WE LAY.

“TRUST AND OBEY”… FOR THE FAVOR HE SHOWS AND THE JOY HE BESTOWS ARE FOR THEM WHO WILL TRUST AND OBEY.
