What Really Deposits on Your Lungs? Pictures from:

What We Want to Do: Create GEN II smoking machine – With terminal sacs (alveolar sacs) Gives Δ Study particle deposits on sacs – Continue GCMS Research different lungs and smoking profiles – Continue using interface (Strong point)

Why? Design of medication – What is the optimum particle size? Continuation of smoking research – Use of the different profiles, different cigarettes – Are some cigarettes safer? Design of pollutants? – Byproducts – can they be designed?

How? Modularity – Complete Gen II project without interfering with Gen I machine Keep LabView program – Could be optimized but not a focal point Create test stand for alveolar sacs

Alveolar Sacs Terminal sac to expand and contract Porosity of lung tissue Mimic human breathing Gain data on what deposits in the lung, what passes through the sacs, what stays in trachea Provide data for exhalation of smoke

The End Goal Create expanding alveolar sac for smoking machine Help faculty/students obtain more accurate data from smoking machine Obtain sponsorship from ACS for further expansion and development of smoking machine
