Results of statistic research after the BIB System April 2005

Group researched according to sex There are more women with the BIB System balloon than men.

Group researched according to age Most numerous group are people between 31 – 50 years old, least numerous group are patients over 50 years old.

Group researched according to BMI Determined majority are patients with first degree obesity. BMI

Group researched according to initial weight Most patients weigh kg, least patients weigh more than 200 kg.

Group researched according to overweight Most numerous group of patients with the BIB System have overweight kg.

Group researched according to % overweight loss After implantation more than 30% of patients lost % overweight, and almost 60% of them lost 11-50% initial overweight.

Amount of procedures in following years

Laboratory in PULSMED In diagnostics and obesity treatment two hormons GHRELIN and LEPTIN have diagnostic significance or importance. Nowadays Laboratory in ”PULSMED” Private Hospital perform ghrelin and leptin tests. The laboratory is in possession of modern diagnostic equipment and professional medical materials. It enables us to provide our patients comprehensive and professional healthcare.

Ghrelin was discovered as the peptide hormone that potently stimulates release of growth hormone from the anterior pituitary. It was subsequently determined that ghrelin, along with several other hormones, has significant effects on appetite and energy balance. The predominant source of ghrelin is epithelial cells in the stomach.

Leptin is a protein hormone with important effects in regulating body weight, metabolism and reproductive function. The protein is approximately ~16 kDa in mass and encoded by the obese (ob) gene. Leptin is expressed predominantly by adipocytes, which fits with the idea that body weight is sensed as the total mass of fat in the body. Smaller amounts of leptin are also secreted by cells in the epithelium of the stomach and in the placenta. Leptin receptors are highly expressed in areas of the hypothalamus and known to be important in regulating body weight, as well as in T lymphocytes and vascular endothelial cells.
