Lost Colony of Roanoke Lost Colony is the name given to a settlement established in 1587 on Roanoke Island, off the coast of what is now North Carolina.
In spring, 1585, Sir Raleigh sent a small fleet to Roanoke, led by Sir Grenville. They returned a couple months later.

A group of people sailed to Virginia. John White was the group leader.

They built houses in Virginia so they can live there.

Virginia Dare was born in Virginia on August 18 th, 1587.

John White sailed back to England in August 27, 1587 to get more supplies.

He waited three years to get a ship back to the colony.

When White got back to the colony, they were gone.

He found all the houses gone.

On a tree he saw the word CROATOAN

Some people think wild animals ate them. Other think they went with the Croatoan tribe.

I think because they had no supplies they died.
