SLAVERY &THE BLUES MUSIC

Slavery SLAVERY WAS OFFICIALLY ESTABLISHED IN VIRGINIA IN THE SLAVE TRADE BEGAN WITH PORTUGUESE, AND SOME SPANISH TRADERS TAKING AFRICAN SLAVE TO THE AMERICANS. THOUSANDS OF AFRICANS WENT TO AMERICA IN THE 18 TH AND 19 TH CENTURIES. LIFE WAS HORRIBLEFOR THE AFRICANS BECAUSE THEY WERE TAKEN AWAY FROM FAMILIES AND TREATED CREWLY. AFRICANS WORKED ON PLANTATIONS SUGAR CANES. MUSIC WAS AN IMPROTANT PART FOR SLAVES. THE MUSIC KEPT THEIR SPIRITS UP THEN THE WERE FEELING DISTROUGHT.

THE MIDDLE PASSAGE. THE MIDDLE PASSAGE WAS THE JOURNEY FROM AFRICA TO THE AMERICAN COAST. THE CONDITIONS ON THE MIDDLE PASSAGE WAS INSUFFERABLE. SOME OF THE CONDITIOMS ON THE SHIPS WERE: NO LIGHTING POOR SANATATION NO FREEDOM CHAINED UP NIGHT AND DAY LACK OF VITAMIN C ECT. IF YOU DIED ON THE SHIP BECAUSE OF VITAMINS OR SCURVY YOU WOULD GET THROWN OVER BOARD INTO THE SEA. DID YOU KNOW WOMEN AND CHILDERN HAD MORE ROOM THAN MEN

THE BLUES MUSIC THE BLUES SONGS EXPRESSED ALL THE UNHAPPY THING THAT HAVE HAPPED IN THEIR LIVES. HOWEVER FREEDOM WAS WORST THAN SLAVERY BECAUSE PEOPLE STILL TREATED THEM DIFFERENTLY AND HOMELESS AND ENDED UP POOR. THE PEOPLE INVOLED IN THE BLUES MUSIC BAND WAS ROBERT JOHNSON, BESSIE SMITH, MUDDY WATERS, JOHN LEE HOOKER AND FINALLY ERIC CLAPTON. THE BLUES MUSIC IS A UNQUE GENRE AND IS MADE UP OF AFRICAN AND WESTERN CULTURES IN SOUTHAN UNITED STATES.

SOME OF THE BLUES ROBERT JOHNSON WAS FROM MISSISSIPPI, DELTA AND WAS A PASSIONATE SINGER AND A BRILLIANT GUTARIST. HE LIVED FROM MAY 8,1911 – AUGUST 16, 1938 IN THE UNITED STATES. HE RECORED 29 SONGS IN HIS LIFE TIME. BESSIE SMITH: BORN ON APRIL AND DIED ON SEPTEMBER SHE WAS ONE OF THE BEST SINGERS WITH A EMOTIONAL AND POWERFUL SONG. SHE WAS BORN CHATTANOOGA,TENNESSEE. AND DIE AT CLARKDALE, MISSISSIPPI. SHE BEGAN SINGGING AT A YOUNG AGE. AND SIGNED A CONTRATCT WITH COLOMNIA RECORDS.
