 2009 saw much progress in the Center for Global Health and Medical Diplomacy (CGHMD) objectives to promote excellence in health and medicine locally, regionally and globally.  The Center held its Third Annual Caring Community Conference addressing Academic Health Science Centers, the Healthcare and Bioscience Industry, Quality and Safety Activities, and National Health Reform Successes

 The School of Nursing was awarded the Innovations in Professional Nursing Education Award from the American Association of Colleges of Nursing for its community nursing program.  The Director of the School of Nursing, Dr. Li Loriz was named Director of the Year by the Florida Student Nurses Association and was elected chair of the Florida Association of Colleges of Nursing.  Carol Ledbetter is Chair of the Board of Commissioners for the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).  The Florida Nurses Association recognized 10 School of Nursing faculty members as among the Great 100 Nurses in the state Successes

 Three nutrition faculty were elected to national offices in the American Dietetic Association, including president, Dr. Judy Rodriguez; delegate at large for the House of Delegates, Dr. Catherine Christie; and president of the Dietetic Educators Practice Group, Dr. Lauri Wright.  Nutrition students received an Achievement Award from the Clinton Global Initiative for their development of a garden in an underserved area of Jacksonville  The College continues to grow graduate programs in health, including a doctorate in physical therapy, doctorate in nursing practice, and nurse anesthesia Successes

 Positively impact health care through the CGHMD, The Us Group: Promoting Women and Girls’ Health, education of health care professionals, and our commitment to serving the community.  Provide additional programs and courses through distance learning.  Explore an interdisciplinary PhD in Health Sciences.  Collaborate with FSCJ to provide needed graduate programs in health care Opportunities
