Somerset ISD Online Acceptable Use Policy

Somerset Independent School District Electronic Resources Acceptable Use Policy The purpose of this training is to:  Help you understand the SISD Acceptable Use Policy which is intended to make the district’s equipment and system network function most efficiently.

Training Goal It is our goal to:  Make all of our employees aware of the district’s Acceptable Use Policy and encourage them to adhere and practice safe, legal, and responsible use of technology.

SISD Expectations All SISD’s employees who use technology will have to…  Print and sign the Employee AUP Acknowledgement Form  Turn the form in to front office or department secretary and sign the sign in sheet  Continue to use technology in an ethical, legal and safe way

Purpose and Availability of Access  SISD measures and guidelines for acceptable use of technology are intended to make the district's equipment and system network work efficiently.

Purpose and Availability of Access Access to Somerset ISD’s electronic communication is a privilege, not a right.  All users shall be required to acknowledge receipt and understanding of all administrative regulations governing use of the system(s) and shall agree to comply with such regulations and guidelines.

Purpose and Availability of Access Noncompliance with applicable regulations will result in disciplinary action and consistent with district policies and regulations. SISD will audit, inspect, and/or monitor the user's Internet access as deemed appropriate through any or all of the following:  Periodic  Monthly  Random  As requested by administration The auditing system will enable the Technology Department to monitor access to the network, file transfers, messages, web sites visited, and the date/time and user related with each occurrence.

Internet Safety Policy Somerset ISD is providing access to the Internet with the purpose to facilitate teaching and learning of the curriculum in accordance with Somerset ISD educational objectives.

Internet Safety Policy  Internet users must restrict their activities to endeavors in support of district educational and administrative objectives.

Internet Safety Policy  The district has the right to: monitor, audit, and review user's Internet access in district computers and any district electronic data devices as deemed appropriate to support identification, termination, and prosecution of unauthorized activity.

Internet Safety Policy  Monitoring of individual usage of Internet resources will be conducted to ensure its proper use.  The district uses software to filter content and sites that are considered inappropriate.

Acceptable Conduct  Use of the Internet will be solely for educational and administrative purposed and as a tool to enhance teaching and learning in the classroom.

Electronic Media Electronic media includes all forms of social media:  Texting   Blogs  Chat rooms  Video sharing  Social networking sites

Electronic Media Electronic media includes all forms of telecommunication:  Landlines  Cell phones  Web-based applications

Electronic Media  Use with students:  All employees are prohibited from using electronic media to communicate directly with students who are currently enrolled in the district.  Personal Use:  Employees shall be held to the same professional standards in their public use of electronic media as they are for any other public conduct.

District Computer / Software Usage  Acceptable Conduct –Ensure that any equipment / software is operating properly prior to being checked out. Be responsible for the use and return of equipment checked out. (Normal wear and tear accepted)

District Computer / Software Usage  Unacceptable Conduct includes but is not limited to the following: –Uploading programs to SISD’s system without appropriate authorization. –Moving computers/equipment from designated areas without written approval of the Campus Technologist or Campus Administrator. (An equipment transfer form must be completed and turned in to the Technology Department.)

Chat Rooms and Newsgroups Usage  Chat Rooms and Newsgroups Usage is not permitted on SISD computers/equipment.  Exceptions will be made only after approved through the Director of Technology or  through teacher-supervised use of tools through web hosting service.  Chat Rooms and Newsgroups include but are not limited to the following:  Forums  Instant Messaging Services not regulated by SISD  Message Boards

Electronic Mail Usage  Access to the district’s system is a privilege, not a right. –Employees and students must keep in mind that all is recorded and stored along with the source and destination. Recorded messages are the property of the district and therefore the taxpayers of Somerset ISD and the State of Texas.

Electronic Mail Usage  Procedures for all employees are as follows: – transmissions shall not be considered confidential and may be monitored at any time by designated staff to ensure appropriate use for educational, administrative or limited personal use. –SISD has the right to deny the privilege of using to any user who is in violation of any guideline outline below. –Supervisors/Administrators have the right to request, from the Technology Department, and approved by the Superintendent/Superintendent designee, copies of e- mail sent or received by staff or students if suspicion concerning inappropriate use exists.

Electronic Mail Usage  Unacceptable conduct includes but is not limited to the following:  Transmitting personal information about students including, but not limited to student names, phone numbers and addresses outside of the district’s network without written permission from the student (i.e. 18+) or his/her parents.  Using for sending unnecessary junk mail.

Violations to Acceptable Use Policy  District Employee Offenders  Consequences to policy will be handled in accordance with district disciplinary procedures and may result in any or all of the following at the Superintendent/Designee’s discretion:  Loss of privilege to use computer until conference held with administrator or designee.  Termination of employment.  Civil or criminal liability, including restitution, as appropriate.  Notification of law enforcement authorities at administrator’s discretion.  Immediate withdrawal or access to district facilities/network system with or without prior notice.

Acceptable Conduct  Use of the Internet will be solely for educational purposes and as a tool to enhance teaching and learning in the classroom.
