CHAPTER FIFTEEN LESSON THREE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

OBJECTIVES DESCRIBE HOW THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM WORKS. IDENTIFY TWO NONINFECTIOUS DISEASES OF THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM.

BELLRINGER EXPLAIN WHY IT IS SO IMPORTANT TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR LUNGS.

ESSENTIAL QUESTION WHAT IS RESPIRATION?

DEFINITIONS THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM CONSISTS OF THE NOSE, MOUTH, THROAT, VOICE BOX, TRACHEA, AND LUNGS. CYSTIC FIBROSIS IN CF, MUCUS IN THE LUNGS IS THICK AND STICKY, AND IT CLOGS THE LUNGS. ASTHMA ASTHMA CAUSES THE SMALL BRONCHIOLES IN THE LUNG TO NARROW. ASTHMA CAUSES SHORTNESS OF BREATH, WHEEZING, OR COUGHING. EMPHYSEMA EMPHYSEMA IS A RESPIRATORY DISEASE THAT CAUSES THE ALVEOLI TO BECOME THIN AND STRETCHED.
