Y4 PARENT’S MEETING Y4 PARENT’S MEETING AIM: To tell you what you need to know about fantastic Y4. Please sign attendance sheet!

Mrs Elliott ► Teaching for 23 years ► Been at Bathwick since the last century! ► 3 children at home ► School leader for Maths and Special Needs ► Full time teacher Miss Bowman will be teaching French. Mr Jackson will teach PE and ICT.

Before September... ► Transfer meeting with Mrs. Kenny during the last INSET days ► Discuss Medical/friendships/ attainment/behaviour ► Shuffle-up morning- Thursday 30 th June.

HIGH EXPECTATIONS The 4 f’s of Year 4 Fun Fun Friendly Friendly Focused Focused Fair Fair AIM to encourage learning stamina and independence!

What children should bring to school! ► PE Kit and daps or trainers- Maybe with tracksuit trousers in the winter. PENCILS are provided by school. Children will be able to use pens in Y4, usually towards the end of the year if they have neat writing. They can then choose whether to use pen or pencil.

Class Routines Every morning- Maths, English, Collective worship Every afternoon – topic or art or PE or ICT or music etc. PE is on a Tuesday and Wednesday. Library time is on a Monday. A precise timetable will come home with the children in September.

Maths and English ► Following the 2014 curriculum for Y4- knowledge based and emphasis on key skills such as times tables and spelling. ► Age-related expectations for Maths and English ► More information is available on the school website. ► In September- you will receive a parent’s booklet to help with Maths and the opportunity to attend a a maths/reading meeting with Mrs. Bradley and Mrs Elliott.

TOPICS- linked to History, Geography,R.E., Science, Art and English ROMANSSOUNDANGLO-SAXONSELECTRICITY GEORGIANS (local History) FOOD Topic webs are sent out with newsletters at the start of each long term.

Homework ► Weekly homework- given out weekly and collected in the following week. The children will all be given a homework folder. ► It will usually contain : a) Spellings to practice daily with a related activity to help practice. b) Times Tables practice on a specific table each week. At school - spelling and mental maths test linked to the homework. THERE IS ALSO THE HOPE THAT CHILDREN WILL CONTINUE TO READ TO PARENTS AT HOME.

Homework Projects Usually related to the topic and will cover different subjects. It is much more open- ended and designed to allow the children choice and challenge in their learning at home. In Y4 there will be 3 projects over the year. Each project will have a time scale of about 4 weeks.

Special events in Y4 Special events in Y4 ► Term 1/2- Bath Literature Festival ► - Roman Day in school (dress in Togas) ► - Trip to Roman Baths ► Term 3/4 - Anglo-Saxon Art day (no dressing up) ► - International week ► Term 5/6 - Trip to the Royal Crescent ► - Bath Primary Arts Festival ► - Magdalene Project- 2 day residential ► Over the whole year.... COOKERY BAGS!

Magdelen Project Residential – JUNE 2017 Environmental Activities – Crewkerne. Farm set up. 2 nights away from home. Activities include: shelter building, making their own meals- pizzas, sandwiches, orienteering, and investigating sustainable and food sources on the farm. It is based on the Magdalen Farm, Winsham.
