SOCIAL STUDIES Started the year with a focus on U.S. geography. Focus on U.S. history through the Civil War. We will be beginning a State Report next week. The process will be very similar to what was done on the 4th grade California history reports. The final product will be a PowerPoint presentation and report to the class. We will also do an additional research project near the end of the year. D.C. trip April 3 rd -9 th ; 1 st EFS meeting tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, October 23 rd at 7:00 pm (parents only). 2 nd meeting TBD

READING Focus is on continued skill development, especially fluency and comprehension Will use short stories, novels, poetry and non- fiction sources; Great Books later in the year Book report guidelines coming soon. Read to your kids!

iPADS Each 5 th grade student has been assigned an iPad to use at school. Take tests in some subject areas, perform research on the internet and complete various assignments. Student account 15 iPAD rules
