Tech for Teachers EDU 216 Lesson 11: Presentation Tools

Presentation Tools Presenting information a student has learned is one way to student learning. There are many ways to share their knowledge here are a few: –Animoto –Glogster –Prezi –Mixbooks –Museum Box –Kizoa –Slideful –Infogr.am

Note: A lot of these sites require an address or subscription. If you were going to use any of these resources in your classroom you may want to set up an account just for your classroom and/or create an account for your classroom too. Most elementary students do not have an or can have an account so it make it difficult to use in most classrooms. So you will want to keep the username and password simple enough for students to use.

Animoto Create slideshows set to music with Animoto. Animoto offers a free version for educators so that your students can put pictures and text together. Once they have their content in place, they choose a song from Animoto’s song library and everything is mashed together into a cool, engaging video presentation.Animoto

Glogster or GlogsterEDU Make online posters with Glogster. You can choose the free version or purchase a subscription for more features. Students can then create posters, called glogs, that include images, videos, audio and other interactive elements to help present their information.Glogster

Prezi Prezi works similarly to a typical slideshow, but it takes it to another dimension. Zoom in and out of sections of slides for emphasis. Rotate slides and add other animations. Prezi makes your typically PowerPoint presentation or other slideshow a little more exciting.

Prezi

Mixbooks Instead of a slideshow or poster, how about a scrapbook? Mixbook allows you to create digitial scrapbooks. With the applications wide selection of backgrounds, templates and pictures, you can create a professional-looking scrapbook. While you have the option of printing the scrapbook, you can also simply share it and view it online.Mixbook

Museum Box Turn a research project or autobiography into a museum exhibit with Museum Box. Upload pictures, videos and audio files and add descriptions to create your own mini exhibit on any topic. Viewers can then travel through the museum gallery to view all that you have included in your exhibit.Museum Box

Kizoa Kizoa is a tool for creating photo and video slideshows and collages. The different image editors allow you to add filters and special effects to photos and videos. You also have the ability to add music to enhance the presentation. Kizoa

Slideful Slideful is a simple online-based slideshow creation interface. Slideful’s ease of use makes it perfect for a younger class or a group that isn’t highly tech-savvy. Slideful

How to Use Slideful Once you get to Slideful’s home page, you are free to upload up to 10 pictures for your slideshow. Upload as many pictures as you’d like, then click “Next.” Now select whether you would like to create a Normal Slideshow or a Simple News Slideshow. After doing this, select the pixel size of the slideshow that you’d like to create, then click “Next.” In this step, add some text, change the slide’s background color, and even zoom in on the image if you choose. When you’re satisfied, click “Next.” On the next page, add a frame to the image...or don’t; it’s up to you as to what you’d like the appearance of your slide to be! Choose a frame or the “No Frame” option and click “Select and Next.”On the next page, choose from Slideful’s long list of possible animations. Once you’ve got an animation that you’re satisfied with, click “Select & Next.” Now choose the length that you would like each slide to appear for and click “Next.” Next, decide whether you would like to add Play, Next, or Previous buttons to your show. You are also free to select “skip” and opt out of having any of these buttons on your show. Now decide if you’d like to add a Zoom button to your slide and click “skip” or “Next.” Finally, select Path 1 or 2 depending on whether your images are copyrighted or not. Then decide how you’d like to share your slideshow and you’re done!

Infrogr.am Infogr.am has got the best charts. For illustrating data, there are more than 30 different types of charts to choose from. Anything from bubble charts and tree maps to simple pie charts. Infogr.am Editing data can be easily done in Infogr.am’s built-in spreadsheet, or you can import your own XLS, XLXS and CSV files. Once your infographic has been edited and beautifully designed, you can save it to your computer as a PNG or PDF file with a paid subscription.
