WAYS OF MAKING ELECTRICITY

NUCLEAR POWER Nuclear plants use uranium as a fuel to produce power. One of the problems of nuclear power is the permanent storage of spent radioactive fuel. This fuel is toxic for centuries. Nuclear Accidents 28 March Three Mile Island-accident involved a small leak of water from the reactor system that wasn’t correctly diagnosed. Saturday April 26, 1986 at 1:23:58 a.m. Chernobyl-On reactor 4 suffered a catastrophic steam explosion that resulted in a fire, a series of additional explosions, and a nuclear meltdown.

WIND POWER When the wind turns the blades of a windmill, it spins a turbine inside a small generator to produce electricity, just like a big coal power plant. Advantages Wind energy is free - it needs no fuel and produces no waste or pollution. Disadvantages They have a visual impact. WINDMILL BLADE S

SOLAR POWER p A solar power station uses the Sun's heat to make steam, and drive a generator to make electricity.
