Presentation transcript:

Force: a push or a pull. Energy: is the ability to do work and make a change. Work: work is an object+ force + motion. Potential Energy is stored energy. It is called potential because it has the potential to be converted into other forms of energy. Kinetic Energy is the extra energy an object possesses to use its motion once it has accelerated. Kinetic energy is the energy of motion. The forms of energy are –chemical energy -heat energy -light energy -electrical energy -sound energy -mechanical energy The rider on the top is potential because he is about to come down the hill. The rider coming down the hill is kinetic because his motion has just been released.

A magnet attracts when the poles are opposite and in the magnetic field. A magnet repels when the poles are alike. A magnetic field-the area around a magnet where magnetic objects repel or attract. Magnet-an object that attracts other objects toward it. Magnetism-an attractive force. Law of magnetic attraction states that like poles repel and unlike poles attract.

Refract: when light passes through a prism, it gets refracted or bent. Additive color mixing is mixing light beams because each beam of light adds its colors to the mixture – which is why light on the screen from the combined beams is brighter than the light from either beam by itself. Sunlight is made up of many different colors of light but all together, they look white to our eyes. Another name for light that is separated is SPECTRUM. Subtractive Color Mixing- Absorbing, or “swallowing up” most of the colors of light that hit them and reflecting, or bouncing back the rest. This picture shows how a prism refracts.

Do mirrors reflect light? A. True B. False

Mirrors reflect light by a light ray is reflected by a flat mirror at the same angle at which it strikes the mirror.

What do mirrors reflect? A. Both B. Light RaysC. Light Beams

~CORRECT~

Mirrors reflect both light rays and light beams because the glassy surface on the mirror can reflect anything. Light rays change direction or bend when they travel from one substance to another. Light beams are made up of light rays.

What types of mirrors are there ? A. ConcaveB. ConvexC. Flat

All answers would be correct because those choices are all types of mirrors concave mirrors curve inward and convex mirrors bulge out. Flat mirrors images appear as they were put into the mirror because they are flat.

Vibrations- means to move quickly back and forth. Volume- the loudness of sound is how strong the sound seems when it strikes our ears. Frequency- is the degree of highness or lowness of the sound heard by the listener. Sound Waves- sounds are created by vibrations and travel in compression waves. Sound Energy- sound is a form of energy that we hear. Sound is made when an object. The sense of hearing involves the ear, eardrum, auditory nerve, and brain.

Engineering- using math and science to solve problems. Technology- anything that people create to solve problems. Engineering Design Process- ask questions, imagine solutions, plan and create your design, and improve it.
