Chapter4 Transmission of Heat

Transmission of Heat Ways of transfer of heat Conduction Convection Radiation The thermos flask Thermoware Good conductors and bad conductor

Transfer of heat Conduction The transfer of heat from one end of a substance to another is called conduction. It is seen in solid substance.

Convention- The transfer of heat by means of currents is called convection currents.

Radiation- The transfer of heat in the absense of medium is called radiation of heat.

Good conductors of heat-substances through which heat travels easily and quickly is called Good conductors of heat.e.g.copper,iron,aluminium Bad conductors of heat-substances through which heat travels very slowly are called bad conductors of heat.e.g.soil,wood,glass etc.

Question Hour- 1Why is a medium necessary for conduction? 2Define-Conduction Convection Radiation, medium. 3Why does it feel warm near bonfire? 4Sawdust is a bad conductor of heat.
