Q. Is the gift of the Holy Spirit the same thing as gifts of the spirit? A. No.

Apostles – Acts 1:8 but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”

Cornelius – Acts 10:44-48 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who were listening to the message. All the circumcised believers who came with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also.

For they were hearing them speaking with tongues and exalting God. Then Peter answered, “Surely no one can refuse the water for these to be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we did, can he?” - Acts 10:46-47

And he ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to stay on for a few days. - Acts 10:48

Disciples – Acts 8:14-17 Now when the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent them Peter and John, who came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit. - Acts 8:14-15

For He had not yet fallen upon any of them; they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they began laying their hands on them, and they were receiving the Holy Spirit. - Acts 8:16-17

Gift of the Holy Spirit – O.T. ‘For I will pour out water on the thirsty land And streams on the dry ground; I will pour out My Spirit on your offspring And My blessing on your descendants; - Isa. 44:3

Gift of the Holy Spirit – O.T. “It will come about after this That I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind; And your sons and daughters will prophesy, Your old men will dream dreams, Your young men will see visions. - Joel 2:28

Gift of the Holy Spirit – N.T. “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments. I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you. - John 14:15-17

Gift of the Holy Spirit – N.T. Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him. - John 14:23

Gift of the Holy Spirit – N.T. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. - Rom. 8:11

By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible. - Heb. 11:3

Gift of the Holy Spirit – N.T. Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are. - I Cor. 3:16-17

Gift of the Holy Spirit – N.T. Guard, through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure which has been entrusted to you. - II Tim. 1:14

Some believe and teach that… the Holy Spirit dwells in us simply through the internalization of the Word.

A. 2. A New Desire for Spiritual Things A. Prayer In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; - Rom. 8:26

Desire for Spiritual Things… B. Righteousness So then, brethren, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh—for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live. - Rom. 8:12-14

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, - Gal. 5:22

Desire for Spiritual Things… C. Intimacy with God For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, - Eph. 3:14-16

so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth - Eph. 3:17-18

and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God. - Eph. 3:19

This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. - John 17:3

Desire for Spiritual Things… D. Service in the Kingdom Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord. There are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. - I Cor. 12:4-7

Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. - John 3:5-6

Do not be amazed that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” - John 3:7-8

Today, God offers forgiveness and the Holy Spirit!
