 Economic downfall  The longest & most severe depression ever experienced by Western World

 Stock market prices dropped in New York Exchange  In stock market prices dropped over 20% of value since 1929  By ,000 of 25,000 US Banks failed Failed banks + loss of confidence in US economy = less spending, demand, production

 Between 12-15% in the beginning  By 1933 it was 25%  37% of all nonfarm workers  People did anything to earn money for their families

 Elected in 1932 as US President  Promised a “New Deal” to reduce unemployment  Kept US economy from totally crashing
