Exchange Studies Marketing progr., Master in Innovation + Entr. Anna Lindahl Director of International Affairs

What will happen today?

Last time Focus on your possibilities for internationalization This time Focus specifically on exchange studies and your study program What type of exchange are you able to do within/outside of the program? When can you do an exchange? What are the rules for the exchange? Purpose Will provide tools which will help you to chose the best exchange location for you as a student within your program A lot of talk about courses BUT Use that as grounds for your decision Will only apply for which university to go to now

Who is involved/responsible for what?

Academically The Director of International Affairs at SBE (i.e. me) Program Coordinators Marketing Programme – Michaela Sandell Master (2 y) Entrepreneurship – Erik Rosell Master (2y) Innovation – Åsa Gustavsson Freestanding courses – program coordinator + course coordinator Administratively – practical issues International Office (IO) – central LNU level Everything + result You. – Exchange studies is not a human right, it is an opportunity – You decide what it will become – Your effort is an investment for the future

What are our options?

Exchange basics Exchanges can only take place abroad You cannot exchange the semester for a semester in another Swedish university Has to be a university on our partner list (database) for exchange Other universities = freemover

Exchange Marketing Program Semester 4 Semester abroad with a focus outside of the business administration area Semester 5 Semester abroad within a specialization, bachelor level Year 3 (semester 5+6) Double Degree A year abroad with set courses in Bern, Switzerland A bachelor’s degree from us A bachelor’s degree from partner institution Semester 7 for a master’s degree Has to be part of a master’s degree Master level studies 50%, other levels 50% Come back in spring for master course + thesis

Exchange – Master Programs Entrepreneurship Semester 3 A mandatory semester abroad for master level studies Courses within the focus of the program National Sun Yat-Sen, Taiwan ESSCA, France Internship possibility if you can find an internship yourself Erasmus+ internship program for internships 3 months or longer Innovation Semester 3 An optional semester abroad for master level studies Courses within the focus of the program and your specialization (business) No pre-selected placements

Other possibilities – all programs Minor Field Study Thesis semester Swedish Citizenship Good command of Swedish SEK 8 week field study Application and assessment 14 scholarships 2014 Collaboration with company in Sweden or abroad Thesis semester We cannot provide internships It is up to you to find company Part of the learning process Strongly encouraged

What must we study? Degree

Marketing Program Semester 4 A full semester of 30hp Maximum 15hp within Business Administration At least one course in either Economics or Legal Science (can study both) Economics – applied course for economics in general or principles of/basics when it comes to macroeconomics Other subjects to broaden your skills Keep in mind! Business Administration: marketing, organization, HRM, leadership, entrepreneurship, accounting, finance, logistics… Do NOT chose an institution where it is said that you can only take courses within the Business/Economics department (e.g. Europe, SP Jain, Mercer etc.) Courses should be relevant to the program – an opportunity Language of the country or English Culture studies are ok Design, web programming etc.

Marketing Program Semester 5 A full semester of 30hp Entirely within a specialization Focus on Business Administration/Marketing Bachelor level studies No room for free choices Double Degree (year 3) One year abroad, 60 ECTS, according to pre-approved curriculum

Master programmes Innovation A full semester of 30hp A focus on innovation and business preferably All graduate level (G in partner list) Entrepreneurship A full semester of 30 hp A focus on the core of the program All graduate level (G in partner list) Master of exchange + courses at LNU A full semester of 30hp At least 15hp graduate level (G in partner list) All should be within business Make sure you are eligible for the spring semester master course + thesis

Exchange outside of the programs – Used to be possible – Abused by students – Will be restricted – A year abroad as a gap year in between two program years, before last year of study – Clear focus and purpose

Which level are we looking for? Semester 4 North America + Asia = course code 200/2000 – 399/3999 Europe and the rest = year 2 or 3 Semester 5 North America + Asia = course code 300/3000 – 499/4999 Europe and the rest = year 3 or 4 Undergraduate degree often 4 years abroad Master level North America + Asia = course code 500/5000 – 699/6999 (no higher than 800/8000) Europe and the rest = master, graduate, second cycle Please note that there can be undergraduate courses included in master programmes and these ARE NOT possible to transfer back as graduate level It is not enough that a course is included in a master program

What do we need to think about?

The Application Process… Online application Information about you Rank 6 universities you want to go to in your order of preference Academic statement Deadline OUTSIDE of Europe – November 28 th at Deadline for European partners – January 30 th at Deadline for all remaining agreements but only for SPRING EXCHANGES – April/May No late applications are allowed Ranking % of passed courses out of total amount of registrations % of VG out of total amount of possible VG-grades Attach studies from other academic institutions of higher education Everyone is your competition basically Nomination MUST REPLY YES OR NO!

Keep in mind… The main responsibility for the result is Yours An investment in time and money 850 agreements. Curriculums change. Things go wrong. Be smart about your choice of universities You can ONLY chose from our list of partners We are NOT willing or able to sign agreements with universities of your preference Always check availability of courses! Language of instruction? All exchange agreements are undergraduate unless there’s a note saying otherwise Check for G in the partner list online for Graduate level

Destination X?

Where did the others go? A list of previous locations will be posted on MyMoodle. Keep in mind that just because someone decided to go to place X it isn’t a guarantee that place will work for you. An individual experience. Curriculums change. Academic statements!

Where can we go? USA Most subject areas About 3 graduate level exchange Canada Good but tough Australia Only 2 graduate level exchanges Europe Focused areas of study Variation of undergraduate and graduate exchanges

Where can we go? Latin America Limited placements for courses taught in English Works better for semester 4 Does not work for graduate level Africa South Africa

Where can we go? Asia South Korea Good graduate level placements Japan Kwansei Gakuin for graduate placements Waseda University = ivy league for Japan Akita, APU, ICU, Ritsumeikan, Kansai Gaidai for marketing program China Taiwan for graduate placement, National Chengchi University Hong Kong for undergraduate (Only Hong Kong Baptist) Renmin University, Shanghai U for graduate level

Where NOT to go? Canada not for graduate level Spain low on courses taught in English Italy low on courses taught in English for undergraduate, better for graduate Mainland China low on courses taught in English in general
