Considered to start from his election in 1828 which ended the good feelings era and end after his death in 1845 with the Mexican War ( ) The crisis over slavery undid his era

During the Jackson Age, the Trail of Tears was multiple trails that led a mass relocation of Native Americans from their homes in the areas neighboring present day Georgia and Florida to Oklahoma. The relocation gave rise to a petition by John Ross which received over 16,000 signatures but was enacted by Congress anyway. Within the Cherokee tribe alone, 3,500 out of 15,000 people did not survive the journey to Oklahoma. In total, over 16,000 Native Americans died on the way across the Trail of Tears, whether by disease or malnutrition.

His actual birthplace is unknown Both North and South Carolina claim to be his birthplace He was really popular (he won popular vote 3 times) Married his wife while she wasn’t legally divorced yet Only president to be a former prisoner of war Even though he is on the 20 dollar bill, he hated money

Supposedly dueled a lot (speculated range between 5-100) Charles Dickinson accused him of cheating in a horse bet and then insulted his wife(Rachel). Dickinson fired first and shot him next to his heart; He just put a hand on his wound and moved on. He fired at Dickinson and missed the first time and the fight would normally be over. However, “the fiery Jackson” breached etiquette and shot Dickinson killing him. He recovered from the wound but it caused pain for the rest of his life.

Failed January 30, 1835 Jackson traveled to the Capital Building to attend a funeral. Once he tried to exit the building, A painter named Richard Lawrence showed up and attempted to shoot the president with 2 guns, both of which misfired. Believed he was King Richard the III of England and if he killed Jackson, he would be paid the money the US owed him

Soldiers found a young Native American boy at The Battle of Horseshoe Bend and brought him to General Jackson. He decided to adopt the child. The boys name was Lincoya and Jackson raised him as his own son. Jackson saw a lot of himself in Lincoya and planned on sending him to West Point. Lincoya declined to become a saddle maker. He died just months before Jackson’s election in Rachel was devastated and it is believe that his death contributed to her heart failure about less than a year later.

Daniel Walker Howe - believed Jacksonians were about defending white supremacy; Whigs were more democratic Alexander Saxton- criticized Jacksonians' claim to strengthen democracy while simultaneously pushing out Native Americans
