Most useful information from Chapter 18  Qualities of Effective Delivery 1) Try to be natural a) memorize your speech and don’t say it word for word so it sounds like you. 2) Be Enthusiastic a) Talk about something that excites you and acted excited when giving the speech 3) feel Confident a) Don’t be shy or stutter when your giving your speech, be sure and focused. People will listen to you more when you are confident with your speech. 4) Be direct a) show that you care about your audience and have a message that interest and focuses more towards the audience.

Chapter 18 continued  Method of Delivery 1) Speaking from a manuscript a) You read your speech word for word from your speech 2) speaking from memory a) You memorize word for word of your speech 3) Speaking from impromptu a) You don’t write anything on it and you don’t practice it at all. 4) Speaking from Extemporaneously a) you give your speech from an outline or key words. These ideas were the most helpful to me because it will help me when practicing my speech and with being a better speaker. The Methods of Delivery help me know which ones are which and I should be doing the one that is Extemporaneous or speaking from memory.

Most useful information form chapter 19  This vocal checklist is very helpful 1) does your voice sound like an expert 2) Is your voice too soft or too loud 3) Do you have a monotone voice. Do you emphasis on certain words 4) Do you have a slow or fast speed for talking 5) Do you avoid vocal fillers 6) Do you pause 7) Does your voice reflect emotional expressions  Pronounce and articulate your words When we speak we sometimes say words differently than others and our listeners don’t know what that is. They might get what we are trying to say, but have to think about it for awhile. You have to be extremely careful when using words that most people say the same way like effect and affect. They have totally different meanings and it could confuse your audience if you use the wrong one.

Useful information from chapter 20  The main things from this chapter was the charts. The first one is for facial expressions: 1) Use expressions that are natural 2) Avoid blank expressions 3) Don’t use unnatural or not yourself expressions 4) Use expressions with your feelings and your words. The second one was effective gestures. 1) Use natural gestures 2) Avoid exaggerated gestures and that over powers the audience. 3) Don’t use gestures that you think will distract the audience 4) Use gestures when expressing a word or phrase

Chapter 20 continued  The third and final one is for practicing your speech 1) practice with notes/written speech 2) revise your speech to better standards 3) focus on ideas, not yourself 4) time each part of your speech for it is equal or flows right 5) use presentation aids/visual aids 6) practice over and over again. It helps when you practice in front of people 7) visualize your speaking setting 8) the last one which I’ve said before is Practice, Practice, Practice. It will help more than anything that is above if you just practice your speech. This list is still very helpful for me and to others.
