Expectations 1.Sit in your assigned seat 2.Begin the “Do Now” Assignment 3.Attendance 4.Lesson 5.Keep your health papers!! They are your responsibility!! 6.RESPECT yourself and others 7.Follow directions

What do I need? Health: – Pen/pencil – Your health packet – Health Folder Gym: – Top – Bottom – Sneakers

Bathroom Only during transition times Do not interrupt class Sign out Take a pass Make it fast! You are responsible for what you missed

Lesson 1 – Attitude and Personality Passive, Aggressive or Assertive?

Passive?

Passive Behavior Not sharing your needs, opinions, ideas or beliefs allowing others to make decisions for you. Avoiding conflict or confrontation

Passive Behavior Have you ever said “yes” when you meant “no”? Have you ever agreed to do something you really didn’t want to do? Have you ever given in to someone’s demands because you didn’t want to make them angry or hurt their feelings?

What’s wrong with being passive? Feel taken advantage of Feel hurt, angry, or resentful Can lower your confidence Robs you of recognition Can lead to feeling depressed

Why would someone be passive?

Aggressive?

Aggressive Behavior Selfish Try to dominate and control others Never wrong Taunt,Threaten or Bully Mean Violent Start arguments

What’s wrong with being Aggressive? Difficult to keep friends leave others feeling disrespected May lose respect from others

Why would someone be aggressive?

Assertive

The ability to speak up for yourself in a way that is honest and respectful.

Assertive Behavior 1.You are able to say how you feel without being rude or mean. 2.You can ask for what you want or need. 3.You can disagree respectfully. 4.You can offer your ideas and suggestions. 5.You can say no without feeling guilty. 6.You can speak up for someone else.

Why does it matter?

1.Shows you respect yourself and others 2.Sends the message that you believe in yourself 3.You will make and keep friends 4.Better at working out conflicts and disagreements 5.If you give respect, you get respect Assertive Behavior

Review Decide if the personality style is Passive, Aggressive or Assertive

How to be less aggressive 1.Try letting others speak first. 2.Do not interrupt someone speaking. 3.Ask someone else's opinion, then listen to the answer. 4.When you disagree, try to say so without putting down the other person's point of view.

Poor Non-Verbal Communication 1.Rolling eyes 2.avoiding eye contact 3. Arms crossed, legs crossed 4.Doodling or fidgeting 5.Slouching
