Northwest Region FactsCompare and Contrast The northwest region is a very cold region, there was a lot of rainfall, the land of the region is very jagged and many mountains. Cedar Plank Houses with many rooms. Salmon and other fish were eaten and plentiful. NorthwestTo other regions Makes cedar plank houses. Other regions make different houses than a cedar plank house and their house didn’t have as much room as others. This house has several rooms in it. Other house only have one big room or small room. Made canoes up to 60 feet long. Other tribes only made shorter canoes. Has less tribes than any other regions. Has more tribes in all the regions than in the Northwest region. Lots of salmon and other fish to eat. Mostly ate wild meat and grains.

Southeast region Facts This region has lot of rain which allows the soil to grow rich crops. Hot summers & mild winters. Swampy and grassy areas. Different types of plants can be found, also different species of animals. Deer skins used for clothes and bones for weapons. SouthwestTo other regions The Seminole tribes built chickee houses in the southeast region. Cheokees and Creek in the north of the region built of clay walls and bark roofs. Other regions built different houses with materials known to that region. White heron, rabbit, deer, and alligator were found in this region. Fish, buffalo and other animals were found in different regions. Corn, gourds, and tobacco were grown. Different plants or crops were grown in different regions. Other regions didn’t use corn in the same way or didn’t grow corn.

Northeast Facts about this region A lot of forest area. This region has a good amount of rain in which makes the soil rich to grow good crops. Plants grow well and supplies a lot of food. 6 tribes were part of the League of the Iroquois. NortheastOther regions Made houses called longhouses. No other region built houses that could fit many families living in one house together. Other regions made smaller houses and other families didn’t live under one roof. Wild rice was an important food for this region. Other regions had fish and meats to eat. Some plant like Maple were only found in this region. Maple and some other plants were not grown except in the woodlands. Black bears, deer, rabbit and wild turkey were found. Other regions had deer but no wild turkey or black bears.

The Great Plains Facts Snows and gets cold in the winter. Very hot in the summer. Flash down pours of rain. Few trees on the land and a lot of grassy areas. Buffalo important to this region. Supplied hides for teepees, clothing, food, tools and dung for fuel. Great PlainsOther regions Made teepee’s, earth lodges and wikiups. Other regions don’t make teepee’s but some do make various types of houses. Tribes in this region made Dreamcatchers. Others regions made baskets and rugs. The dung of some animals(buffalo) was used for fuel. No other regions used dung for fuel.

The same between other regions. They both have natural resources that they all used in different ways. They all make different homes to live in. They always get the food that they need instead of getting to much and wasting it. All use natural resources to make their homes and buildings in that tribe/region. All use animal skins or natural resources to make clothing or blankets. Some have the similar climates, natural resources, plants, and animals. Today the reservations have schools on them. Many people have moved into cities to find work to support the family.
