Oficina Regional para América Latina y el Caribe DW 1. FRAMEWORK 2. OBJECTIVE 3. FOCUS 4. METHOD 5. STRUCTURE OF THE CUBE 6. TRAINING ROUTE

FRAMEWORK Social Justice Declaration (SJD)  Members’ responsability to realize a strategy for SJD implementation  DWCP (within the UNDAF) with union participation HOW to make such participation EFFECTIVE? Through TRAINING! 4

Oficina Regional para América Latina y el Caribe DW OBJECTIVE contribute to strengthen unions’ capacity, to elaborate union strategies of DW promotion and MDG achievement, for effective and coordinated participation in decision-making processes at national and international levels. Planning union training for Decent Work promotion (DWCP and UNDAF) Planning union training for Decent Work promotion (DWCP and UNDAF)

UNION NEEDS 1) TUTTs (Trade Union Technical Teams) on DW 2) Collective construction of a METHODOLOGY OF UNION TRAINING  3) COOPERATION/ NETWORKS among unions at the National/International level 4) Promotion of FoA and gender perspective (Crosscutting issues) 6

Let’s take a while to understand the “CUBE” WHAT IT IS: the Cube is a proposal of UNION TRAINING PROGRAM on DW WHY WE NEED IT: because unions underlined the need of training on DW to be – Planned and organized (otherwise, the interrelation of the 4 strategic axes of DW results very difficult to understand and implement through union action of DW promotion) – Count on a complete and flexible Training Program, with room for adaptation to union specificities. 7

3 questions 1) What do we mean by «union training» 2) How to define participants’ training route? 3) Which is the structure of the CUBE? 8

TRAINING METHODOLOGY ACCORDING TO THE CUBE: MEANING OF “UNION TRAINING”: o as a PROCESS o as a TOOL for action  method “Practice – Theory – Improved Practice” Need of taylormade“TRAINING ROUTES”: – MULTIVARIANT (according to participants’ profiles, needs and time) – QUAD-POLAR (every training route –i.e. on ILS- highlights the interconnections with the other strategic axes and mainstreams gender perspective) 9

Oficina Regional para América Latina y el Caribe DW A) Training, for Decent Work promotion, in terms of PROCESS Training conceived as a PROCESS that incorporates as essential elements: The set of skills, abilities and capacities acquired from union practice to defend workers’ interests (considered from the training perspective); knowledge and accumulation of individual and collective experiences, with special emphasis on the collective dimension; Capacities to organize, propose, mobilize, integrate and transfer, which union movement has and should have. Focused on action; Appropriation of the process from the collective perspective of union action. Beyond the "individualizing" understanding of training.

Oficina Regional para América Latina y el Caribe DW B) Training, for Decent Work promotion, in terms of TOOL to enable in building strategies, actions and performances in different contexts, effectively responding to the demands of their group. (This was the starting point in Lima) to inable the integration of knowledge and action, indispensable issue in the union context to generate processes to support “self-learning” process throughout life (permanent education) To provide consistent guidance to problems resolution throughout life
