GOOD MORNING  Welcome to English II and Happy New School Year!  There are 2 handouts on the table by the door, please take 1 of each and have a seat. You DO NOT need to fill anything out at the moment.  Due to classroom rearrangements and student schedule changes, you may sit in any seat for today only. (We will have a seating chart after today.)  Also, please be sure to have all devices off and put away when the bell rings. *I FOLLOW THE H.H.S. ELECTRONIC DEVICE POLICY. No phones when class starts.* Thank you for your cooperation! It is greatly appreciated.

CLASSROOM RULES  Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.  Cell phone is turned off and put away.  Wait your turn to speak if someone else is speaking.  Appropriate language only. No profanity.  Work only on English the entire class period.

CLASS PROCEDURES Beginning of Class: - Prepare your supplies before the bell rings -Enter and go straight to your desk -Read objectives on the board -Follow the directions given Closing of Class: -Put all assignments away when told to do so -Pick up trash around your desk -Wait for me to dismiss you. The bell does not dismiss you! - If you have your folder, put it in the bin as you leave.

SUPPLIES  Everyone is required to have a binder (BUFF Binder) with dividers for four core classes (English, Science, Social Studies, and Math).  Let’s look at our classroom syllabus to view additional supplies are needed for our class.  You will also need to provide a folder that will stay in this classroom. The folder is your portfolio for the school year and will hold EOC materials and all of your writing throughout the year. The folder never leaves our classroom.

BATHROOM POLICY  No restroom breaks during the first or last ten minutes of class.  No restroom breaks during direct instruction (lecture).  2 passes per 6 weeks unless there are modified exceptions (I will hand your passes as you fill out your Student Information Sheet)  Each 6 weeks, passes will change colors  Phones must be left in the cell phone basket  Sign out with your name, time out, and time in, before you take the PINK bathroom pass.

GRADING POLICY  Each 6 weeks you will have a minimum of 8 daily grades and 3 test grades.  A test grade could also consist of a major project.  Each day an assignment is late 10 points will be deducted. Assignments will no longer be accepted after 5 days.

ABSENT WORK  If you are absent it is your responsibility to get any assignments that you missed. If it is a handout I will have one waiting for you in the ABSENT BOX. I would suggest you come in before or after school to pick up what you need and go over the material that you missed.

REDO, RETEST, NO ZEROS POLICY  Any major grade that is scored below a 70, assures that I will assign you a mandatory academic tutorial.  I will also notify parents/guardians/directors/coaches to inform them of the grade and tutorial.  When attempting a major test grade, the expectations are that you aim to reach 80% mastery of the content. *This policy is not designed for students to postpone possible high scores on a major grades due to lack of preparation. This is not available as an alternate option for poor scores on first attempts in an effort to delay your higher score for another date. This is simply designed to ensure that you as a student master all assigned content.  This policy is up to teacher discretion and decisions may vary for mandatory academic tutorial. If you choose not to engage in this opportunity, you are required to sign the “Zero Accepted” form, documenting your reason and agreement as to why you chose not to do the work.
