Forgivable or Unforgivable? Everyone in your group needs to stand up. You are going to see a scenario on the board. As a group you need to decide whether or not you would be able to forgive in this situation. When you have all reached a unanimous decision you can sit down. You need to try and all be sat down by the end of the 1 minute timer.

Forgivable or Unforgivable? A friend has stolen £20 out of your wallet. You confront them and they deny it.

Forgivable or Unforgivable? Someone from work has spread rumours about you and it results in you not getting the promotion you wanted.

Forgivable or Unforgivable? A criminal stole a precious piece of jewellery from your home. They have sold it so you cannot get it back.

Forgiveness Learning Objective: To explore the concept of forgiveness in the context of Crime and Punishment. I can explore Christian teachings on forgiveness. I can give an example of someone who followed Christian teachings on forgiveness. I can evaluate whether criminals should be shown forgiveness.

Jesus shows forgiveness… One of Jesus’ key teachings was to show forgiveness to those who have done wrong to you. What does Jesus mean by saying ‘let he who has never sinned throw the first stone’?

Amy Biehl As a college student in California, Amy Biehl dedicated herself to ending apartheid in South Africa. When she won a Fulbright scholarship in 1992, she decided to go to South Africa to immerse herself in the country's culture and politics. In 1993, the white American was stoned and stabbed to death by a mob of angry black militants. How is this an example of forgiveness? How did Christian teachings influence Amy’s parents? Do you think you could forgive in this situation? Are there some things we should never forgive?

Seventy Times Seven In this clip we heard Jesus’ teaching that we should forgive seventy times seven times. What does Jesus mean by this? Jesus said that we shouldn't keep track of how many times we forgive someone. We should always forgive those who are truly sorry, no matter how many times they ask.

Evaluate Should criminals be shown forgiveness by their victims?
