Class 8_2 Today: Finish MatLab review Modeling work session Reminder: Computer model due as a HW assignment on March 6, next Thursday. (Be sure to keep a copy for yourself.)

DP questions?

What your model should be when done: 1.Defines the purpose by posing questions to be answered 2.Derives the analysis from first principles 3.Implements the analysis using a MatLab program 4.Provides information that is useful in designing the details of your device

What your model should be when done: Due as a hw assignment on March 6 Use the Design Report Template Read suggestions in the template Professional format: type all equations (hand drawn sketches okay) “mathtype” program available

Tips for getting a good computer model grade Do provide a sketch of your device in the “overview” section, so the reader can understand what you are analyzing. Don’t use a model that is the same as the class examples except for minor tweaks. Do use a loop in your Matlab code in an effective way.

Tips for getting a good computer model grade Do provide at least two test cases that build confidence in the results your model is producing. Do type all equations. Do have plenty of words to explain your analysis. Don’t substitute experimental results for analysis results.

Tips for getting a good computer model grade Do provide at least two graphs showing the sensitivity of device performance to design choices. Do make a strong case on how you used the results to improve your design. Don’t fake anything.

Tips for making engineering models Make simplifying assumptions. What physical laws are relevant? Draw a diagram. Break the problem in to parts. Look for upper and lower bounds.

Work session Please have your work ready for me to take a look at. Please use this time to work on your model.

Tuesday: Another work session. Bring your MatLab program.
